The Huawei P30 Pro is one of the biggest devices from Huawei with the Chinese brand declaring it’s a device that’ll “rewrite the rules of photography”. Huawei may not be a great smartphone company for the US residents due to restrictions but it has over the years established itself as a big name across other parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The P30 Pro is a big example of what flagship can offer and that can be seen with its outstanding specs.

And why it’s somehow discriminated in the US (where you can’t actually buy it), it’s priced in the same range as other competitors with similar specs like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The ultimate Huawei P30 Pro’s quad-camera setup offers up to 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and huge 50x digital zoom. Meanwhile, the P30 Pro packs in the necessary features needed on a flagship device including a premium design, excellent bright OLED display, in-display fingerprint scanner, powerful processors, outstanding battery life, and a wireless charging feature.

Undoubtedly, Huawei has gone from strength to strength into becoming one of the best smartphone brands over the years and this can be clearly seen on the Huawei P30 Pro. We’ve had the device for a while now and brought out its total features, specs, and current price in the US market.

Undoubtedly, the P30 Pro’s overall aesthetics is of premium style, revealing the true beauty of the smartphone. At 158 x 73.4 x 8.4 mm dimensions, the Huawei P30 Pro is thicker than both Apple iPhone XS Max and Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. The phone is wide, tall, and has an incredible weight of 192g. Meanwhile, the device screen slopes down at the edges which added to its premium feel.

Fortunately, the P30 Pro has multiple colour options of Aurora, Amber Sunrise, Breathing Crystal, Black, Pearl White, Misty Lavender, and Mystic Blue. However, you might not get it all depending on your region but each of the colours is a beauty to behold. In the box is a translucent silicone case that provides protection and much-needed grip without spoiling the design.

Meanwhile, as you should know, there’s no headphone jack on the Huawei P30 Pro which makes you rely on wireless options or make use of a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. The bottom corner of the phone is flanked by a speaker which is followed by a USB-C port and SIM tray. However, this is a dual-SIM tray but you can choose to sacrifice one in place of a microSD card. Meanwhile, on the right are the easy to reach power button and volume rockers which are tactile enough.

To finalize its protection, Huawei equipped the P30 Pro with IP68 rated protection against dust and water. The phone can easily withstand being submerged in up to 2m of water for 30 minutes.

Huawei P30 Pro Review: Display

  • Size: 6.47-inch OLED, HDR10
  • Pixel Density: 398ppi
  • Resolution: 1080 x 2340 pixels

The Huawei P30 Pro packs the normal display size of a 6.47-inch OLED panel with 1080 × 2340 pixels resolution. Meanwhile, other display features include 398ppi pixel density, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, HDR10, and 88.6% screen-to-body ratio.

When it comes to performance, the Huawei P30 Pro display produces bright, colourful, and clear imagery which makes it one of the most sorted devices in the whole world. However, this isn’t the best display as many competitors like the Apple iPhone XS Max has a higher resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels and 458ppi. Also, other brands like LG, HTC, and Song equipped their flagship devices with QHD panels.

Meanwhile, let’s not forget that most Samsung phones like the Galaxy S10 and S10+ now has the FHD+ resolution set as default, unlike the P30 Pro. However, the Huawei P30 Pro display still looks fantastic and bright enough for outdoor use.

  • Video: 4K@30fps, 1080p@60fps, 1080p@30fps (gyro-EIS), 720p@960fps

On the top rear panel is a quad camera setup consisting of a 40MP primary shooter which is accompanied by an 8MP telephoto lens, 20MP ultrawide sensor, and ToF (time-of-flight) depth-sensing camera. Fortunately, Huawei retained its partnership with the camera giant Leica to engineer the P30 Pro’s cameras thereby adding to its performance.

Launching the P30 Pro’s camera will introduce you to the 40MP main camera by default although the resolution is set to 10MP. You’ll need to hit the settings icon to set the resolution to 40MP. The results of the photos taken with this camera are awesome, introducing us to a whole new level of photography.

When it comes to zooming, the ultrawide sensor offers up to 50x optical zoom which will deliver a perfect result if you can find your way to tweak its settings accordingly. Meanwhile, the Huawei P30 Pro can take excellent lowlight shots with images exhibiting a decent amount of detail, clarity, and vibrant colours. Also, there’s a Night Mode that takes photo in darkness and makes them appear well lighted.

Battery Capacity

  • Capacity: 4,200mAh
  • Reverse wireless charging
  • Fast Charge: 40W SuperCharge adapter

The Huawei P30 Pro packs a 4,200mAh battery which is more durable than the one on its competitors. In today’s smartphone world, the P30 Pro’s sort of battery life is difficult to come by with many devices struggling to last for a day, but the Huawei P30 Pro can easily last for 48 hours on average use. And this amazing performance is minus the power saving modes equipped in the phone.

Another impressive feature that we’ll love to see and finally have is reverse wireless charging which allows you to use the device and charge compatible gadgets. This is a feature we’ve seen on Samsung Galaxy S10 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro and we’re happy to be having it on the P30 Pro. Meanwhile, you’re getting a 40W SuperCharge adapter out of the box which can power the phone from 0 to 70% in just 30 minutes.

Huawei P30 Pro: Price in the US and Availability

Undoubtedly, the Huawei P30 Pro is one of the most expensive phones out there. At a $1,140 price tag, it levels against the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus and is a bit cheaper than the Apple iPhone XS Max. However, the price will drop much lower during black Friday deals or Amazon discount offers.

Now, when it comes to availability, it’s no longer news anymore that most Chinese products are restricted to be on sale in the US. However, you can order from third party stores like Amazon and AliExpress and have your phone delivered to you within few weeks.
