Poco is gearing up the launch of its latest Poco M5s device which will debut alongside the lower Poco M5 model. The company announced that it’ll launch its Poco M5 series in the Indian market on September 5 at 5:30 PM IST.
The Poco M5s is indeed an exceptional device that’s powered by a 12nm MediaTek Helio G95 chipset and comes with an excellent 64MP rear quad camera set-up. Furthermore, the M5s device features a 5000mAh battery life that’s powered by a 33W fast charging technology which is great for a mid-range phone. Meanwhile, the Poco M5s has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which is the current trending security bypass.
There’s no doubt the Poco M5s will end up becoming a top-rated mid-range phone, but it indeed comes with some criticisms especially when it comes to storage. However, when you look at its price, the M5s device might be worth consideration. Let’s take a deep analysis of the latest Poco M5s device to know whether it’s worth buying.

Design and Display
The Poco M5s has an entirely different design pattern from its M5 sibling which is very noticeable. It has a similar design to that of the Redmi Note 11S, but with a slight difference in camera arrangement. Upfront is a dot-hole notch that houses the selfie camera as opposed to the teardrop notch that’s on its smaller sibling.
There’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner which also serves as the power button at the top right corner along with the volume buttons. With 160.5 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm dimensions, the Poco M5s will be very comfortable for one-hand operation and it weighs less at 178.8g. Interestingly, Poco equipped the phone with an IP53 certification, which although doesn’t protect it against water, but did well in making the phone dust and splash-resistant.
According to GSMArena, the Poco M5s comes with a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen which displays at 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution. This is unlike the M5 model which has an IPS LCD. Meanwhile, there’s a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection alongside a 20:9 aspect ratio.
The Poco M5s has an excellent display, showing at 1100 peak brightness level which is good for outdoor use. Fortunately, the screen is vivid, with deep black colors which make it exciting when playing games or reading with the phone.

When it comes to the camera, we haven’t tested the Poco M5s camera performance yet, but from its specs, we can guess how it’s going to perform in real life. The M5s back camera department is headed by a 64MP primary shooter which is assisted by an 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro lens, and another 2MP depth sensor.
Turning to the front is a 13MP lens with an f/2.5 aperture that takes care of the selfie camera. The Poco M5s camera is expected to perform well, especially when used outdoors with enough lighting. However, shooting in lowlight settings might turn out to be a disaster if you’re not a camera Pro, but the equipped LED flash can brighten the photo a bit.
As for the video, the Poco M5s’s front camera can only shoot 1080p videos at 30fps, while its back can record 4K at 30fps, 1080p at either 30/60/120fps and 720p at 960fps.
Performance, Storage, and Software
The Poco M5s will debut with a MediaTek Helio G95 chipset running at 12nm which is a 2.2 GHz Octa Core Processor. GSMArena revealed that the M5s will have three RAM options of 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB to help boost productivity and help eliminate any form of lagging or slowing down while playing games.
The M5s is an ideal phone for game lovers and social media freaks who love having a speedy device. And if you choose to play some games, watch videos, or stream movies on Netflix, you’ll always experience a decent performance while using this phone. However, we’re not sure whether there’ll be a 5G variant, but we expect to see it in a few months.
When it comes to storage, you’ll have to choose between the 64GB or 128GB storage options. However, we expect to see a 256GB variant, but Poco must have a reason for not adding it. Nevertheless, you can as well expand the storage through a microSD card slot up to 512GB.
The Poco M5s runs on the Android 12 operating system that’s based on MIUI 13 interface. This will give it a direct qualification for the new Android 13 update alongside Xiaomi’s MIUI 14 interface, so expect to enjoy the best software features on this device.

Battery Capacity and Charging
The Poco M5s comes with a 5000mAh battery capacity which is among the highest in a Poco device. This makes it last more than a day on normal usage. However, you might need to connect the phone to a charger frequently if you play lots of games or stay online for hours.
Fortunately, there’s an upgraded 33W fast charging support that powers the phone from empty to full battery within one hour. This is a massive improvement over the Poco M4 5G which has the basic 18W fast charger. It has the same battery specs as its M5 sibling which is quite discouraging as we expected to have higher battery life and fast charging support.
