The most recent PlayStation 5 arrived in 2020 but that doesn’t mean it’s still early to be talking about what’s coming next. The Sony PS6, though still years away is expected to arrive with new features and upgrades. Even though we’re unlikely to see the next gaming console for a few years yet, but that won’t stop us from fantasizing about what Sony is going to offer.
Exactly two years since the launch of PS 5, many rumours have been lingering on when the next-gen Sony PlayStation 6 will be released and what features it’ll come with. While it’s very obvious we’re unlikely to see a new PlayStation console soon, that doesn’t mean we can’t fantasize about the features that’ll come with it.
Meanwhile, it’s good to know that Sony has already trademarked the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, and PS10 names which means there are plans made for them already. Ahead of a potential release date, we’ve gathered everything we know about the Sony PS6 including the features we expect to get on the next-gen gaming console.

Sony PS6: Features we want to see

Smaller Console
Last year’s PS5 is a large one and the biggest console in modern PlayStation history. This makes it impossible for those who don’t have enough space to house it. However, in the next-gen PS6, we’re hoping Sony will streamline the console by making it smaller to allow adequate airflow without causing any inconveniences.
Improved UI
Despite the updated PS5 user interface being superb, there are still have some flaws that are needed to be ironed out in the new PS6. Some of the features like the PlayStation store are not easy to navigate especially while trying to find your friends. However, this doesn’t make the PS5 UI a bad one but a little upgrade will be needed to make it more accessible.
Wireless Charging Support for Controllers
There’s no doubt that the charging dock for the PS5 DualSense controllers works nicely and easily slide into the charging pin but we feel like having a new innovation will make more sense. Sony needs to emulate smartphone industries by integrating wireless charging support on the next PS6. This will allow you to easily charge the controller by placing it on top of the console, or a separate charging dock would be appreciated too.

Wireless Connection to the TV
There are far too many wires on most of our media stations and the PlayStation 5 is not innocent. Apart from the separate plug block for the controller charging base, we’ve got the HDMI and power ports, plus an additional cable for PSVR 2. All this we’d like to avoid in the Sony PS6. A single power lead with every other thing wireless will be much appreciated.

Sony PS6: Expected Release Date and Price in the US and Nigeria
Undoubtedly, the PS6 release will still go a long way as the last predecessor was just released in November 2020, so it’s unlikely to expect a new one in the next two or three years. Typically, new Sony Playstation launch around every six or seven years with the PS4 arriving in 2013 and PS5 in 2020.
A Sony VP of Hardware Engineering Masayasu backs this release cycle:
“Indeed, in the past, the cycle for a new platform was seven to 10 years, but in view of the very rapid development and evolution of technology, it’s really a six to seven-year platform cycle,” Masayasu said.
“Then we cannot fully catch up with the rapid development of the technology, therefore our thinking is that as far as a platform is concerned for the PS5, it’s a cycle of maybe six to seven years. But doing that, a platform lifecycle, we should be able to change the hardware itself and try to incorporate advancements in technology.
“That was the thinking behind it, and the test case of that thinking was the PS4 Pro that launched in the midway of the PS4 launch cycle.”
However, one positive indicator is that Sony has already secured trademark names up to PS10. Although this doesn’t mean anything, but it gives a hint at a future of some kind. If Sony will follow the same roadmap in the PS4, we can assume that the PS6 release date will be around 2026.
