Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G: Full Review, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

Xiaomi has just launched its latest budget 5G phone for the global market in the name of the Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G. This is entirely different from the normal Redmi 10 that was launched earlier this year and it packs some amazing features apart from the 5G network support.

This midrange killer device features a 6.58-inch display that’s found on its predecessor alongside a 1080 × 2408 pixels resolution. The new device is powered by a MediaTek Density 700 5G chipset, along with dual cameras at the back. Also, there’s an MIUI 13 version built over the Android 11 operating system. The device has the normal 5000mAh battery life that’s found on other Xiaomi phones.

The smartphone is currently in the second range of the Xiaomi budget segment after the Xiaomi Redmi Note models. Meanwhile, with its specifications, it competes with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 family launched last year. We’ve done thorough research on the ultra-modern Redmi 10 5G and brought out its full review, specs, and current price in Nigeria.

  • Front Camera: 5-megapixel
  • Rear Camera: 50-megapixel + 2-megapixel

Design and Build-up

We’ll say one thing about the Redmi 10 5G design; it doesn’t look like a budget phone. One thing Xiaomi never fail to deliver is a good looking smartphone and the trend continues in the Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G. This is a concept Xiaomi has deployed, making plastic phones look like flagship ones, with the intention to appear like glass and metal designs.

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G has a large dual-camera bump on the back that’s far larger and more elaborate-looking than the simple strip seen in the Redmi 10. The camera looks like the one on Huawei Nova 9, although with fewer sensors.

The Redmi 10 5G has big cheekbones, but it doesn’t matter for a phone that costs less than $200. However, this phone doesn’t look like its price and can easily fool people into thinking it’ll cost higher. The Redmi 10 5G has a tear-drop notch, while the Redmi 10 has a punch-hole which is nothing as the latter costs higher.

The screen borders are reduced to the lowest minimum which makes the Redmi 10 5G easier to handle than other mobile phones. At 164 x 76.1 x 8.9 mm dimension, this is significantly a large display that’s similar to the one on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

The volume rockers and power button are positioned on the right side of the phone with the fingerprint scanner embedded into the power button. We found the fingerprint reader to be reliable and unlocked without much delay.

Display

Display

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G display is one of the selling parts of this phone, although there are rivals with a better screen.

At this price, we’re amazed at how Xiaomi managed to stuck in a quality display that’ll conveniently serve every user’s needs. This 6.58-inch screen is very sharp, vibrant, and has a dynamic range of colours which is fantastic for a budget phone.

The colour saturation is pretty cool, although you can decide to tweak it a bit if you want. Fortunately, there’s a 90Hz refresh rate which you can decide to tweak down to 60Hz to save battery. However, the 90Hz will make the phone to scroll faster while using it, but it all depends on your choice. But, being an LCD panel is a turn-off, but we understand Xiaomi did that to keep the price low.

Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G: Camera

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G camera is one of this phone’s deceptive areas. A 50MP sensor would make you think this is a photography smartphone but that’s far from reality. Apart from the primary shooter, the other sensor performs below expectations.

The phone camera’s dynamic range is bad, but the HDR mode can try to hide the error to some extent. The software-based enhancement tried well in hiding the depth-sensor deficiencies which we appreciate. However, when it comes to colour reproduction, we found it to be poor in less than solid lighting conditions.

As expected in a phone of this price, the Night Mode looks bad with a lack of details. Even though it brightens up images a bit, there is some noise at the edge but quite preferable when you consider what phones that are pricier offers.

The 5MP selfie camera performance is closer to what we expected on a budget smartphone. It’s the perfect option for video calls, even though it has a limited dynamic range. In a phone of this level, we didn’t expect to have high-end video features like stabilised 60fps or 120fps slow mode, but the Redmi 10 5G offers 1080p at 30fps.

Performance and Software

Performance and Software

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G won’t offer the best gaming experience, particularly when compared to the slightly pricier Note 11S. The gap between the two phones when it comes to gaming is vast and we won’t advise anyone to get the Redmi 10 5G as a gaming phone.

The phone has a MediaTek Density 700 5G chipset that handles the hand set’s performance. With 4GB RAM, you can easily switch between open apps and web pages even though they’ll restart in most cases. On the storage side, you can choose to go for the 64GB or 128GB storage unit options depending on your preference.

The Redmi 10 5G is an Android 11 phone, but with Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 13 interface. Even though this feels like a real step backwards, we still appreciate Xiaomi’s decision in integrating their latest software on the Redmi 10 5G.

Battery Capacity

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G has a 5000mAh battery capacity which is among the highest in modern-day smartphones. It can easily last for a day with more than 50% of the battery left depending on your usage. However, with the screen set to 60Hz, you’re likely to get a slight boost compared to 90Hz.

There’s no improvement in the charging speed as the Redmi 10 5G has an 18W fast charge.
