The Xiaomi 13 is the next flagship series from the Chinese tech giant, bringing in those impressive features of the previous Xiaomi 12 with additional upgrades that prove the superiority over the Its predecessor. The company has introduced the new series in two models, the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
Both phones are sitting on the top shelf of Xiaomi’s suite of mobile phones which was previously occupied by the Xiaomi 12 series. While we’re awaiting the official launch of the Xiaomi 13, the photos and specs are all over the internet and we’ve gone through them with a series of research to bring this detailed review to you.
The Xiaomi 13 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor which is a flagship chipset that was launched recently. Prior to what we saw last year when the Xiaomi 12 launched with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Xiaomi has been using the latest processors on its flagship phones to deliver a powerful performance.
The Xiaomi 13 will also debut with the company’s soon-to-be-released MIUI 14 interface which seems to be the reason why the launch of the new phone was delayed recently. The smartphone features a 50MP sensor on the rear while a 32MP selfie shooter sits on the top of the 6.28-inch display.

Xiaomi 13: Price in Nigeria and Release Date
Following the announcement of the Xiaomi 13, the Chinese company initially planned to unveil the phone in early December before a sudden change of mind. Now, the Xiaomi 13 is set to be launched on 11th December which is 10 days away from the initial launch date. The MIUI 14 is also scheduled to be launched the same day since it will be used in the Xiaomi 13 series.
As for price, the Xiaomi 13 will likely be selling for ₦583,800 ($789) for its base variant. Though no announcement has been made yet, the price of the previous Xiaomi 12 series has shown us what to expect from the phone. For availability, those in China will be the first to get their hands on the Xiaomi 13 as usual, while the rest should expect it in two months.

Design
The Xiaomi 13 does look like its predecessor in some ways, but the difference is very noticeable. The smartphone now has a boxier shape like that of a flagship iPhone. This means that Xiaomi has moved away from the usual curved display and body to a squared body design language that measures 152.7 x 69.9 x 8.2 mm.
The adoption of a flat display is one of the changes we saw in the design of the Xiaomi 13. Its camera bump has been retouched too but doesn’t look too different. The squircle-shaped camera bump houses three lenses and a Dual-LED flash almost like the Xiaomi 12 and other phones like the OnePlus 10 Pro.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi 13 appears in a smaller length which differentiates it from the Xiaomi 13 Pro. In addition to that, you’ll get the usual USB type-C port on the bottom shelf of the phone, alongside the speaker grille. The right edge of the phone houses the power button and the volume rocker that is placed slightly above it. Also, the handset will arrive in three colors namely Wilderness Green, Ceramic Black, and Ceramic White.
Xiaomi 13 Review: Display
The Xiaomi 13 uses a flat 6.28-inch display, built with an AMOLED panel that features a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. This is unlike its pro model which comes with a bigger screen and higher resolution, but the refresh rate remains 120Hz on both phones. Xiaomi used the same method during the launch of the Xiaomi 12 series a year ago.
The AMOLED panel ensures punchier colors and sharp contrast using 68B colors and HDR10+ support. The display also features Dolby Atmos Vision support with up to 1100 nits of maximum brightness to ensure clear visibility under a sunny environment. The smartphone’s fingerprint scanner is built into the 6.28-inch display that has Gorilla Glass Victus protection on top.

Camera
The Xiaomi 13 comes with a triple camera setup on the rear, which comprises of the main camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto lens. In partnership with an esteemed camera company, Xiaomi intends to improve the capturing performance of the Xiaomi 13 series more than the previous series.
The Xiaomi 13 uses a 50MP main camera that features a Sony IMX800 sensor with OIS. The main camera is supported by a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom. With this setup, the Xiaomi 13 captures beautiful images in any given scenario. The use of Sony’s IMX800 sensor and OIS makes photo output look sharp and natural.
Content creators will love the EIS-featured camera for videography, with up to 8K@24fps, 4K@30/60fps, and 1080@30fps resolutions. Additionally, the front camera shooter uses a 32MP sensor for selfies and 1080p resolution for front-facing video recordings and video calls.
Performance, Storage, and Software
Xiaomi has always been trying to give its smartphones the best possible performance using the most powerful processors. We aren’t surprised to see the Xiaomi 13 launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor that was launched in November. This means that the Xiaomi 13 will be one of the first phones to use the chipset.
The Xiaomi 13 is expected to deliver a groundbreaking performance since it has all the necessary features to do so. The chipset is combined with an Adreno 740 GPU for handling graphics while gaming. There’s no doubt that the smartphone can effectively handle any type of game, but the question is how long with a 4500mAh battery though we’re getting to that.
The storage unit of the Xiaomi 13 comes in multiple configurations, starting with 8GB/128GB which is likely to be the base storage unit. However, there’re other storage configurations like 8GB/256GB, 12GB/256GB, and 12GB/512GB.
The Xiaomi 13 will launch with the Android 13 OS alongside Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 14 interface. As seen on the expected features of MIUI 14, the phone will come with a revamped UI design, a new widget menu, enhanced security features, and the rumored new Android 13 media player.
Xiaomi 13 Review: Battery Capacity and Fast Charge
The new Xiaomi 13 is claimed to surpass the iPhone 14 in terms of battery life when the test results of both phones were released. The phone is capable of lasting for a full day on moderate use with the help of a 4500mAh battery.
Fortunately, the battery comes with a 67W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging support. The Xiaomi 13 is advertised to charge from 0 to 100% within 40mins. Therefore, the smartphone has an impressive battery life and charging speed, surpassing most of its rivals.
