Tecno Pova Neo 2 Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

The Tecno Pova Neo 2 is one of the company’s latest devices which comes after the standard Tecno Pova Neo. It looks like Tecno didn’t intend to do much with the release of this new phone because there’s absolutely not much difference between the two devices. Probably, to refresh its entry-level series of smartphones, they had to come up with a phone that features a modern design and the latest Android OS.

The Tecno Pova Neo 2 is an ideal smartphone for every phone lover who wants a superb battery life, but won’t like to spend much. For less than $200, you’re getting a 7000mAh battery capacity phone that’ll solve almost all your battery problems without the need for a power bank.

The Pova Neo 2 is the type of smartphone every budget buyer would love to have. For a cheaper price, you’re getting all the basic features of a smartphone alongside a huge battery capacity that is bigger than what you would get if you’ve gone for a more expensive counterpart.

On the other hand, getting a budget smartphone means you’ll have to keep your expectations very low. Therefore, the Tecno Pova Neo 2 has only done well on the most essential part of every smartphone where it features a big screen with a 90Hz of refresh rate, a MediaTek Helio G85 processor that delivers a decent performance, and a 7000mAh battery for long-lasting battery life.

It’s not a surprise to see a 16MP camera sensor on the Tecno Pova Neo 2. That’s a bit of an upgrade from the 13MP sensor in its predecessor, so we’re impressed with what it has offered. Depending on what you’re ready to sacrifice for, the Tecno Pova Neo 2 is good if you don’t mind capturing with a lower pixel sensor. Nevertheless, the phone excels on both performance and battery which we’re impressed with.

Design

Design

The Tecno Pova Neo 2 rear panel has a striking design that’ll easily captivate the interest of your friends and colleagues. The device is built with a plastic material that is used on every smartphone from the entry-level segment to some of the mid-range phones we see today. This material often looks cheap and prone to scratches, so some brands have been adding a textured matte finish to make their phones have that premium design of a flagship phone.

Unfortunately, Tecno has designed the Tecno Pova Neo 2 to match the little amount you paid for it. It’s very obvious once you take a first glance at the new phone and hold it in your hands. Nevertheless, you’ll find the phone very easy to handle because it weighs slightly less at 189g.

Also, the device has a body dimension of 170.9 x 77.8 x 9.6 mm which means that it can fit comfortably into your pocket. Meanwhile, a compacted and slim design is one of the things people love most about flagship phones, so we’re excited to see that on an entry-level smartphone like the Pova Neo 2, while a fingerprint scanner is placed on its right side.

The device arrives in Uranolite Gray, Virtual Blue, and Orange Magma colour options to choose depending on the one that suits your taste. However, you might not be able to get your desired option because the availability differs in the market and country. Generally, the Tecno Pova Neo 2 has a good design, especially on the camera module which we probably haven’t seen on any smartphone.

Display

impressively, the Tecno Pova Neo 2 brings a 90Hz refresh rate into the budget end of the market. And still, the device has a huge 6.82-inch screen that features a resolution of 720 x 1640 pixels. We’re pretty much convinced with the IPS LCD panel that is used on the display which is efficient enough to offer a decent viewing experience.

Combine this IPS LCD technology with the large 6.8-inch screen that boasts 90Hz of refresh, you’ll have a very excellent display that is almost the same as what you would get if you’ve gone for a more expensive smartphone. The display also features a punch-hole cutout on the top centre for the selfie camera. However, if there’s anyway you don’t like the Pics Neo 2 display, consider going for the latest Oppo A57 5G that’s on the same price segment too.

Camera

Camera

For optics, the Tecno Pova Neo 2 has a camera feature that delivers the best capturing experience for your money. On the rear, the device features a dual camera setup of a 16MP main camera and a 2MP sensor for portrait shots. This setup might not be able to capture great shots in all scenarios, but we’re satisfied with that given the phone’s price.

The 16MP main camera performs incredibly for capturing in good light scenarios, with sharp contrast and good dynamic range. You’ll hardly get a decent shot in low-light scenarios where photos appear very dark. This is the issue with other entry-level smartphones, so we expected the same with the Pova Neo 2.

On the front, the smartphone has a single 8MP selfie camera. You can get decent front-facing shots with the selfie camera including recording of videos at 1080p resolution.

Performance, Storage, and Software

Performance, Storage, and Software

The processor is one of the main hardware that handle the performance of a smartphone, alongside the graphics hardware which handles graphic images that are displayed on the device. The Tecno Pova Neo 2 uses a Mediatek Helio G85 processor and Mali-G52 MC2 for graphics. This pair of hardware will work together to ensure a smooth experience while using the phone.

They’re mostly used in entry-level smartphones because they make a pretty good combination to reduce lags while you’re multitasking, scrolling through media feeds, and browsing the internet with your phone. Alongside the CPU and GPU, the device also comes with 4GB and 6GB of RAM paired with 64GB and 128GB of storage. You can also boost the storage using a micro SD card slot.

The Tecno Pova Neo 2 is built to offer modern features from the latest Android OS. The smartphone comes with the Android 12 OS along with HiOS 8.6 interface. Tecno has used its custom interface to improve the user experience by adding more features that you won’t find on the Android OS.

Battery

The Tecno Pova Neo 2 has a big 7000mAh battery capacity that’s bigger than what you’ll find on some premium devices. This battery capacity is enough for all-day long use, and may even last longer if you use the phone moderately. The Tecno Pova and Pouvoir lineup are known for their incredible battery capacity, but it seems the new Pova Neo 2 took it to the next level with this 7000mAh battery life.

The charging process takes longer than expected, so you will have to limit your usage if the device is in a low battery state. Although the phone features 18W fast charging support, it’s still not enough to charge the big 7000mAh battery within a short time. This makes the phone to take up to 1hr 40mins or more to be fully charged if you’ve used it down to 0%.
