OnePlus 10 Pro Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

OnePlus is one of the brands that are making efforts to compete with the top brands like Samsung, Apple, and Google. Last year’s OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro were all flagship phones with mind-blowing specs and prices to match. This year, OnePlus has upgraded its specs to produce a new flagship phone called the OnePlus 10 Pro. One of the most interesting parts of this phone is the price which happens to be cheaper than the last year’s $1000 smartphone, though there are cheaper variants.

With the release of this phone, OnePlus has covered some gaps between itself and the other top brands. This OnePlus 10 Pro could be a viable option if you want similar specs just like that of the Samsung, Google, and Apple’s flagship phones at a reasonable price. However, that doesn’t make the OnePlus 10 Pro a complete alternative to Google Pixel 6 Pro or the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus.

The OnePlus 10 Pro has no match to the Google Pixel 6 Pro’s camera nor that of the Samsung Galaxy S22. Its 48MP main camera and 50MP ultra-wide shooter are almost the same as the last year’s 9 Pro. If OnePlus continues to release phones like this one, then we will get to witness a better phone than the two premium Android phones.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is a great device with amazing specs especially its LTPO2 Fluid AMOLED technology which puts it ahead of most flagship phones. However, how does the phone level against other flagships in the market? Here’s out unbiased review and verdict about the latest OnePlus’ handset.

Design

Design

There aren’t many noticeable changes from the OnePlus 9 Pro which features a tall and slim design. The phone still follows the same design structure that most flagship phones were known for. The OnePlus 10 Pro is always sizeable even if your palms weren’t that big and can easily fit into your pocket due to its lightweight body. OnePlus has designed this phone to match its top quality. This is something you can’t put away in their phones even the mid-range ones.

The OnePlus 10 Pro has a Gorilla Glass 5 at the back with an aluminium frame across its circumference. This phone comes in two different colors to pick from including the Volcanic Black and Emerald Forest. Each of these colors looks good on this phone with a matte finish at the back and a squared metallic camera bump from the side rails of the phone.

We’re disappointed to see OnePlus follow the trend of skipping the 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot, leaving only the USB Type-C port at the bottom while the power button is situated at the top right corner along with the volume buttons. However, there’s a three-way OnePlus alert slider to enable you to switch between silent, vibrate, and ring modes.

The OnePlus 10 Pro comes with tons of goodies inside the box. Starting with the normal fast charging support of 80W, its red cable and a user manual. Others include a free silicon case, a pre-applied screen protector, a SIM tool, and a set of OnePlus stickers. This phone is also IP68 rated for protection against dust and water.

Display

Display

A flagship phone that lacks a great display isn’t complete and OnePlus strictly took note of that, producing an LTPO AMOLED screen which measures 6.7-inch. The OnePlus 10 Pro’s display has a resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels, 120Hz refresh rate, and a 20.9 aspect ratio, all matches that of the Google Pixel 6 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus.

With the help of this LTPO 2.0 technology, the refresh rate automatically switches from 1Hz to 120Hz for fast and smooth scrolling. The screen isn’t as bright to be compared with that of the Samsung Galaxy S22 but is equally usable outdoors with 1300nits of peak brightness. OnePlus has provided a collection of screen modes which enables you to customize the color depth and temperature the way you like.

The OnePlus 10 Pro also features an in-display fingerprint scanner which is fast and responsive. There’s also a selfie camera that also serves for face recognition at the top left corner of the screen. The screen is covered with a Gorilla Glass Victus for protection.

Camera

Camera

The OnePlus 10 Pro has four camera cutouts at the back which consists of a 48MP main shooter, 50MP ultra-wide, and 8MP telephoto lens while the fourth belongs to the flash. In terms of specs, there aren’t many improvements from the last year’s OnePlus 9 Pro as I said before. That doesn’t mean that this phone’s camera isn’t good enough, just that we expected a huge upgrade that could match its competitors.

The difference between these two phones’ cameras can be observed while taking pictures, and the OnePlus 10 Pro features some software-based improvements to produce much more beautiful images. OnePlus has added a new 12-bit color shooting mode called the RAW Plus just like Apple’s ProRAW and Samsung’s Expert RAW. There’s also a dedicated 10-bit color which can be enabled through the camera app’s Pro mode.

With the OnePlus 10 Pro, you can record 8k videos at 24p, 4k at 120fps, and Al video recording which is good for content creators. The front camera has a 32MP sensor for selfies and making video calls and recording videos at 1080p.

Performance, Storage, and Software

Performance, Storage, and Software

The OnePlus 10 Pro is powered by this year’s top Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. OnePlus has been using the Snapdragon chipset in all of its phones, unlike Samsung which uses different processors based on the market. There’s no need to make comparisons here because the OnePlus 10 Pro is simply a powerful smartphone on its own. OnePlus has added thermal cooling support to regulate the system’s temperature which may heat up as a result of heavy loads.

Fortunately, the OnePlus 10 Pro debuted with the 8GB /128GB storage variant after its launch. However, there’re other variants like the 12GB /256GB, 8GB /256GB, and 12GB /512GB for some specific countries. There haven’t been any complaints about the lack of a microSD card slot on this phone since everyone is satisfied with this huge storage size.

The Chinese version of this phone runs the ColorOS interface, while the version we reviewed runs the Oxygen OS 12.1 interface for international markets, with the Android 12 on top. The major update from the old version of this interface is the shelf that is housing the widgets. Meanwhile, OnePlus has promised three Android updates plus four years of security updates on those devices.

Battery

The OnePlus 10 Pro has a huge 5000mAh battery which is a slight upgrade from the 4500mAh battery in the OnePlus 9 Pro. This is the same battery capacity as Samsung’s S21 and S22 Ultra models.

Meanwhile, the phone arrives with an 80W fast charger for the international markets, leaving only those in the US with 65W.
