Oukitel C31 Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

Oukitel C31 – This year is undoubtedly the season of budget phones as we’ve reviewed more than a dozen of them this year alone than we do in other years. Budget phones are not just affordable, but capable of satisfying your request without the need to spend much.

The latest smartphone from the Chinese company Oukitel has delivered decent specs but is not among the best you could find at this market end. The company has named it the Oukitel C31 which is the successor to last year’s Oukitel C25. The Oukitel C31 is an enticing mid-range phone with great battery life, but poor performance that’s below average for a 2022 device.

Oukitel has taken this year to release a whole lot of affordable phones, and this 6.5-inch smartphone is one of their best offering in the category. But when it comes to the global markets where the competition is fierce, the Oukitel C31 is nothing more than an inferior device amongst a few budget phones. While the appearance of the phone might look attractive, what the phone has within isn’t satisfying.

At some point, the phone does offer something appreciable at this price range, and that’s where the 5150mAh battery comes in. But in terms of performance and camera capabilities, the Oukitel C31 lacks a lot. Nevertheless, you’re looking for an affordable phone and you have one, so you have to live with the downsides which is always the case with budget phones.

Design

Oukitel has designed this phone just like other budget phones, but some things make the phone unique among others. The appearance of the phone looks impressive, though it doesn’t feature all the premium materials. For this price range, the Oukitel C31 has delivered nothing but a stylish design with a set of beautiful colors based on the model you choose.

The design feels very comfortable and easy to use despite not having a matte finish that could enable a firm grip while handling the phone. The Chinese-based company has done a nice job by making the phone feel a little bit light despite packing a 5150mAh battery. Also, the phone fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, measuring just 9.5mm in width. The plastic rear is plane, except for the usual camera bump and speaker grille.

You’ll also find the company’s logo vertically placed down below the rear as well. The front panel has a drop notch cutout on the top center for the selfie camera and the screen bezels are quite noticeable, especially at the bottom. Unfortunately, the Oukitel C31 lacks a fingerprint sensor, so you have to set up passcodes and patterns to unlock the phone which doesn’t guarantee enough security.

Display

Design

The screen measures 6.5-inch and the IPS technology helps to display excellent picture quality. As the case with budget smartphones, the screen’s resolution only clocks at 1600 x 720 pixels which don’t produce vibrant colors. Also, the brightness level isn’t enough for direct sunlight usage and the 60Hz of refresh rate doesn’t ensure a fast and smooth scrolling through the screen.

Camera

Camera

The Oukitel C31 camera performance should be nice if you’re the type that takes simple photos. However, if you need to capture with a great camera, then buying this could just be a waste of money. Besides, what could you expect from a budget smartphone other than a small megapixel? The C31 flaunts a triple camera setup on the rear which consists of a 13MP main sensor with two auxiliary sensors of 0.3MP each.

The 13MP main camera performs well with point-and-shoot photos. Though there is noticeable noise, it still managed to produce some detailed images. You can also take portrait photos where the camera produces some beautiful background blurs, and there’s no shortage of shooting modes. Through the camera app, you can switch between different modes including the Pro mode, Bokeh, and Night Mode.

The 5MP selfie shooter performs impressively for its price under good light conditions. The night photography was nothing to write home about, but that’s in line with the price you paid for. As long as there’s light, you can capture decent selfies, make video calls, and record videos with the selfie camera.

Performance, Storage, and Software

Performance, Storage, and Software

The Oukitel C31 has a MediaTek Helio A22 which is already an outdated processor. Bringing such a processor to work with the Android 12 OS isn’t a wise decision. While the performance is smooth and fast for some easy tasks like scrolling through social media platforms, watching movies, and listening to music, you might get caught up in some issues while gaming with the phone.

Even the less demanding games were unable to perform efficiently on this phone, leading to some stuttering and heating up of the system. The PowerVR GE8320 wasn’t strong enough to achieve stable frame rates while playing games. But if you’re okay with some light games like Bubble Shooter, Temple Run, and Subway Surf, you won’t have problems using the Oukitel C31.

There’s a dedicated microSD card slot if you want to expand the phone’s storage since the provided storage isn’t big enough. The phone comes with 3GB of RAM paired with 16GB of internal storage. You can expand the storage to 128GB or even more, but the C31 will struggle with loading things and opening apps on time.

However, you can go for the 2020 Oukitel C21 which has a better performance, bigger storage capacity, superior camera, but with a manageable 4000mAh battery capacity if you’re ready to spend more.

The Oukitel C31 comes with the Android 12 OS out of the box, so the phone is blessed with interesting features and customizable options. Having the latest Android OS, the Oukitel C31 is also compatible with all modern apps.

Battery Capacity

The 5150mAh battery is undoubtedly the best feature of this phone. This huge battery capacity is capable of offering up to 520hrs on standby. With approximately 60hrs of music playback and 9hrs for videos, you’ll have enough time to do whatever you wish to do with the phone without needing to charge it.
