Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G: Full Review, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

Redmi Note 11 Pro+ Price and Availability

Despite launching more than four other Redmi Note 11 series this year, Xiaomi has also introduced us to the brand new Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G. This was launched alongside the Redmi 10 5G and Redmi Note 11S 5G, making it no less than six Redmi Note 11 models to choose from.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G is undoubtedly the top-spec option and adds some captivating features such as 120W HyperCharge which fully power the phone in just 15 minutes (as advertised by Xiaomi).

The Note 11 Pro+ 5G is an affordable phone that has a fair value for its strength. Even though it may not excel in every aspect, it still does most things perfectly for the price. We’ve lots of details about the new Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G and here’s everything we know about the phone.

Design and Build-up

Design and Build-up

The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G has the same appearance as the base Note 11 Pro. It’s hard to distinguish the two devices as the Note 11 Pro+ 5G comes with squared-off edges and a shimmering plastic back.

Xiaomi manages to keep the design simple, but yet attractive that you’ll mistake the plastic back for glass. The minimalistic angular design is similar to that of the iPhone 13 range despite having a much cheaper price tag. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display sports narrow bezels that are only interrupted by a punch-hole cutout notch for the front camera.

The volume rockers and power button are placed on the phone’s right side, with the power button doubling up as a fingerprint reader. This contrasts with the face unlock feature which despite being responsive can be tricked by photographs and might not work well in lowlight environments.

Other design features of the phone include dual speakers that are positioned on the top and bottom edge of the phone, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, and a USB-C port for charging on the bottom. The left edge is occupied by a hybrid SIM-microSD card slot that lets you expand the phone’s memory up to 1TB.

It’s worth knowing that, at 164 x 76 x 8.34mm, the Note 11 Pro+ 5G has almost the same size as the Note 11 Pro. With a net weight of 204g, the phone is easy and comfortable to carry, although we’d have preferred something lower.

Having an IP53 rating is a good feature as it protects the phone against splashes of water and dust. However, we’re quite disappointed as most recent phones come with IP67 and IP68 which offers full protection against water.

Display

Display

The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G boasts of a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ (1080 × 2400 pixels) resolution. This keeps the phone in the large screen category which we love as it delivers a real-life video streaming experience. Videos are bright enough for viewing while outdoor, thanks to the 1200 max brightness level.

The AMOLED panel helps to provide a crisp visual experience that’s rich in colours and deep blacks. One of the headline features of the Note 11 Pro+ 5G display is a 120Hz refresh rate which paves way for seamless scrolling and animations. However, this in return results to fast battery drainage, but you can switch to 60Hz if you want to manage the battery.

Students will find the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G display enticing as it features a Reading Mode which removes blue light and ‘warms’ up the screen’s palette. Also, you can decide to schedule the blue light to activate only at night, allowing you to read comfortably without straining your eyes.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G: Camera

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G comes with a triple rear camera setup that includes a 108MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro lens. On the front side of the phone is a 16MP selfie camera that’s positioned on the top middle part of the screen.

Apart from the main camera, the two other sensors are quite inconsistent. However, the colours are bright and well defined which is comparable to what you’ll find on a more expensive smartphone. With the help of Night Mode, you can take good looking photos in lowlight environments if you can exercise patience for photos to process due to lack of light.

On the video aspect, the Note 11 Pro+ can shoot 4K video at 30fps and also 1080p at 60fps, unlike the Note 11 Pro counterpart. This will make you record good looking videos even with the ultra-wide and macro lens. However, the lack of optical image stabilization (OIS) will make you hold the phone with a steady hand.

Specs and Performance

Specs and Performance

The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G is powered by a mid-range MediaTek Dimesnity 910 5G chipset that’s also found on the Realme 9 Pro+. This is slightly above the Snapdragon S95 processor that’s found on the Redmi Note 11 Pro. The processor is paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM depending on the unit you’re going for.

There’s a 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage, with the option to expand to the costlier 256GB model. However, notwithstanding the model you’re going for, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G comes with a microSD card slot that allows users to increase the overall memory up to 1TB.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G performance is generally ok with smooth scrolling and switching between multiple open apps. When it comes to games, you won’t experience any problem running demanding games like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty.

Out of the box is Xiaomi’s MIUI 12.5 running over Android 11. We’re quite disappointed with Xiaomi for integrating outdated software when most of the Note 11 models come with MIUI 13 based Android 11.

However, MIUI 12.5 is a great OS that’s easy to navigate, although it comes loaded with plenty of bloatware apps. However, this isn’t necessarily a problem as most phones come with a couple of built-in apps which you can choose to uninstall.

Battery Capacity

Although on paper the Note 11 Pro+ 5G has a smaller battery than the Note 11 Pro, it’s still one of the phone’s biggest selling points. The 4500mAh battery is one of the most durable batteries we’ve seen on a modern smartphone.

Meanwhile, what interests us in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G’s battery is the 120W HyperCharge feature which Xiaomi claims can take the phone from 0-100% in 15 minutes.

The Note 11 Pro+ 5G battery does a great job in lasting an entire day under heavy usage or two days in light use that involves taking of calls and messages. However, if the 120W refresh rate is activated and you occasionally operate the phone, then you’ll find yourself connecting to a charger at the end of the day.
