Oppo Find X2 Pro Review: Camera, Specs, and Price in the US, UK

Oppo Find X2 Pro Price in the US and UK

2019 saw the release of the stylish Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, but the company now has something unique to offer with the Oppo Find X2 Pro which sets a new bar for strongly built and excellently designed smartphones. The Oppo Find X2 Pro is the senior sibling of the Find X launched back in 2018. Undoubtedly, Oppo has upgraded the features of this phone starting from the design, camera, chipset, and even the battery too.

There’s no doubt that the Find X2 Pro is far above the gadgets-like innovation of its predecessor. This makes it one of the best devices you need to add to your phone arsenal this year. Why we’re worried about how long it took Oppo to release the Find X2 Pro device, it’s now clear to us that the wait was to assemble the best features which are indeed worth it.

The Oppo Find X2 Pro display could be considered the integral part of the device and one of its key selling points. It has a fast refresh rate, high resolution, and huge size that makes it one of the best Android smartphone displays. These good specs are mirrored down in the design which features a ceramic back that makes the phone sleek.

Amazingly, Oppo is making strides in the camera department and the evidence can be seen in the combination of two giant camera optimisations which can rival that of Apple and Samsung. Other than its price which is expensive at least to some extent, the Oppo Find X2 Pro is one of the best Android devices you can buy this year.

Oppo Find X2 Pro Key Specifications

  • RAM: 12GB
  • Storage: 256GB /512GB
  • Battery Capacity: 4,260mAh

Design

Just like most 2020 smartphones, the Find X2 Pro is a fairly large phone with 165.2 x 74.4 x 8.8mm dimensions. Undoubtedly, the Oppo Find X2 Pro design is clearly what’s called flagship-class. The display sloped slightly at the corners, which is met by a ceramic back that’s covered in either Black, Orange, Gray, Green, and Lamborghini Edition colours.

The selfie camera is housed on a punch-hole in the top left side of the display. This makes the phone look premium and because the camera is too thin, it doesn’t get in the way of the phone’s notification. While there’s no 3D face unlock like it was in the original Find X, the standard face unlock on this phone is quite fast and a good second security option for those who detest the under-display feature.

Flipping through the back, the Find X2 Pro has a pretty decent camera bump at the top left corner. This is more preferable as it doesn’t wobble when placed horizontally. Moving down the camera bump is an “OPPO” inscribed logo that describes they’re the architect behind this gadget. This adds to the premium feel but is a great turnoff if you’re not a fan of such.

Just like most recent flagship smartphones, you won’t find any special ports like the 3.5mm headphone jack, rather you have to rely on a wireless connection if you want to enjoy cool music. On the top and right corner are the power button and volume rockers respectively. The SIM card tray, charging port, and speaker are tucked into the bottom corner.

Fortunately, the phone has an IP68 protection rating, so it’s safe from dust and 1.5m water for 30 minutes.

Display

Undeniably, the Find X2 Pro display is a top-tier and indeed one of the selling points of this phone. A 6.78-inch AMOLED display enhanced with an excellent viewing experience might be all you’ll need to enjoy your best movie series or games. Between its 1440 x 3168 pixels (UHD resolution) is a 120Hz refresh rate, 800 nits max brightness level, and 10B colours that make the content look incredibly great, fantastic, and enticing.
While on paper, the Find X2 Pro display can be compared to that of the OnePlus 8 Pro’s as they share similar specifications. However, in reality, the Oppo Find X2 Pro is really on another level with its great display optimizations.

A great advantage of the screen is the fact that it’s curved, revealing a flagship killer aesthetic. While not all phone users are fans of curved screens, that of Find X2 Pro wasn’t heavily curved when compared to Samsung Edge’s. This makes it more preferable and a win-win for everyone.

Oppo Find X2 Pro: Cameras

While on paper, you might think the Find X2 Pro has a weaker camera compared to its competitors. However, Apple iPhones have proven that big camera sensor doesn’t result to amazing performance. Behind the scenes, you’ll discover that the Oppo Find X2 Pro’s camera performs better than other flagship phones.

Oppo seems to have adopted Apple and Samsung motive of sticking with relatively low camera sensors. However, they have good camera optimisation software that improves the quality of the photos taken.

The 48-MP primary shooter might be lower than the 108-MP lens you’ll find on certain flagship phones. However, this is Sony IMX689 making it the first Oppo phone to debut this amazing tech. The second 13-MP periscope telephoto lens provides 60x digital, 10x hybrid, and 5x optical zoom. Zooming in with the Find X2 Pro will make the pictures a bit noisy and grainy especially while using the hybrid zoom option. Meanwhile, the final 48-MP ultra-wide lens though it’s still the same sensor with the main camera but one of the best in this budget category as pictures taken showed little or no distortion.

The downside of the Oppo Find X2 Pro’s camera might be perhaps autofocusing as it isn’t as snappy as other phone’s cameras. This is nothing to worry about though as we didn’t experience it occasionally rather frequently. The Oppo Find X2 Pro camera performance is great especially in a low light environment more to our surprise. While the phone lacks macro and depth-sensing cameras, you won’t feel the absence of the former as the ultra-wide lens takes care of that aspect.

Upfront is a 32-MP camera that takes amazing photos with enough details. Photos taken with this camera are bold, bright, and with good colour combinations. However, photos taken in Portrait mode blurs the background up to an extent that images look unnatural which makes us prefer using the standard mode.

Performance and Software

The Oppo Find X2 Pro is a premium device both in the specs and performance department. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset is the same found on Samsung Galaxy S20, OnePlus 8, and Xiaomi Mi 10 phones. The chipset is paired alongside an 8GB RAM, the highest you can find on this phone segment at the moment.

With these specs, you won’t expect anything less than top tier performance and our experience with the phone was amazing. High-end games played perfectly ok at high refresh rate settings. So if you’re looking for a fancy gaming device, or a phone that’ll enable you to edit videos and photos, the Find X2 Pro will get it done for you.

Of course, the chipset is paired with a 5G modem, thereby making the Find X2 Pro one of the few Oppo 5G network devices. While 5G hasn’t been accepted in most countries, in the year 2021, it’s worth adding to your collection if you want future-proof.

The Android 10 software with Oppo’s ColourOS 7.1 UI laid on top added a lot of customisation options to the phone. The ColourOS interface allows you to change the shape of your app icon, snappy navigation, and an always-on-display display are among the many things you’ll get from this Oppo software.

Oppo Find X2 Pro: Battery Capacity

The 4,260mAh battery on the Oppo Find X2 Pro is pretty standard for a phone of this price. Unfortunately, the AMOLED screen coupled with a 120Hz refresh rate will make the battery last lower than expected. However, with light usage and the refresh rate tuned at 60Hz, you’ll get up to 24-hour of active battery life.

The company’s 65W VOOC fast charging support on the Find X2 Pro is one of the fastest on a smartphone. It took this charger 20 minutes to power the phone from empty to 75% and fully charged within 35 minutes. While most fast charging phones will get warm at this time, the Find X2 Pro remains cool more to our surprise. However, there’s no wireless charging feature here, so you’ll have to stick with the provided wired charging.

Oppo Find X2 Pro: Price in the US, UK and Availability

Unlike most phones, the Oppo Find X2 Pro arrived in the UK stores in June 2020. Why it won’t be released in the US due to the government’s restrictions on Chinese products, you can buy from third-party stores and enjoy the goodness of Oppo phones.

As we earlier mentioned, the Find X2 Pro is an expensive device, but truly worth that amount. With $1,450 and £1,050 (in the US and UK respectively), you can get yourself one of the Oppo Find X2 Pro devices. As of now, this is the most expensive Oppo device at launch.
