Vivo X80 5G Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

Vivo X80 5G Release Date

The Vivo X80 5G is probably one of the best-looking phones you can buy this year. Not just that it follows up the company’s X series enormous camera array, but excellent photography and videography features are well intact as you would expect from a flagship

Vivo – a well-known brand in Asia has released lots of capable phones this year, aiming to push their market across the globe. The goal started with the release of the Vivo X51 in 2020, lined up by the Vivo X60 and X70 series smartphones in 2021.

The Vivo X Note and X Fold continued the mission in 2022, gaining popularity across Europe. And now the Vivo X80 is here to grab more attention, packing a flagship Mediatek Dimensity 9000 chipset, and a decent battery capacity with 80W fast charging support. In collaboration with Zeiss, you have a 50MP main shooter with a double 12MP ultra-wide and telephoto lens. Up front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera in a 6.78-inch AMOLED display.

On paper, the Vivo X80 5G looks great but the specs are just specs. We can’t deny the Mediatek Dimensity 9000 of being a flagship killer, but the 50MP camera is a doubt though that’s the highest you can get in a Vivo phone. This means that the Vivo X80 5G stands vigorously in performance, but shrinks a little bit in terms of camera. Let’s find out more in our full review.

Design

Vivo has been giving its smartphones similar looks and the Vivo X80 5G here seems to have been derived directly from its pro model (Vivo X80 Pro), though it looks more like the rest of the Vivo X series smartphones, especially with the camera housing. The phone feels very large, measuring around 8.3mm in thickness, and weighs heavily at 203g. However, that’s what you’ll normally get when there’s a big screen.

The Vivo X80 5G comes with an aluminium frame and a fluorite AG glass back which has an anti-glare matte finish to resist fingerprints and smudges. The whole explanation means that this phone feels premium even though it’s large. The front and back panel is curved to ensure a firm grip while handling the phone. Meanwhile, the X80 5G often feels slippy, so using the provided protective case in the box is required

Alongside the protective case, there’s an 80W fast charger with a USB Type-C cable, a SIM ejector tool, a USB Type-C pair of earpieces, and extra silicone ear tips all in the Vivo X80’s box. You also have the power and volume buttons on the right edge, dual stereo speakers on the top, and the USB Type-C port with a SIM tray at the bottom. Vivo has built this phone with an IP53 rating against dust and water splashes.

Display

Display

The Vivo X80 5G features a large AMOLED display that measures 6.78-inch, with a Full HD+v(1080 x 2400 pixels) resolution. The display is vivid with enough contrast levels and vibrant colors. Since it comes with HDR10 support, watching content on the screen will be a great experience. You can also stream Netflix and Prime Video with this phone’s Widevine L1-certified display.

Furthermore, the Vivo X80 5G comes with 1500 nits of max brightness which makes for visibility under direct sunlight. You also get a buttery smooth experience while scrolling through your screen as well as gaming with the 120Hz refresh rate. Sadly, Vivo left us to use this phone without any Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, though the phone comes with a screen protector out of the box.

The display of the Vivo X80 5G is generally nice, though it lacks some features that could have been outstanding. We’re talking of a QHD+ resolution which is seen in some direct rivals like the Realme GT 2 Pro. Though the FHD+ resolution is good, we doubt if that’s the best for a phone of such price.

Camera

Camera

From the rear of the Vivo X80 5G, you’ll get a beautiful camera array with a triple camera setup, which in collaboration with Zeiss has made this phone’s camera outstanding. Not just with the X80 5G, but also with all the Vivo X series smartphones. First of all, there’s a Zeiss-T coating on each of the camera lenses to reduce flare and ghosting in images.

Out of the three cameras, there’s a 50MP Sony IMX866 main camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) that works towards sharpening the image output of the camera. There’s an auxiliary 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. While the front features a 32MP selfie camera.

Daytime photography looks amazing with a good dynamic range when the HDR mode is turned on. Photos don’t get overexposed or underexposed in any way and are well-detailed with vibrant colors. Switching to the “Zeiss Mode” and you’ll get a few real-life shots with natural colors without losing details. Portrait shots taken with the main camera were decent, but often problematic while ensuring adequate edge detection.

From the telephoto lens, you can capture nice pictures without losing details even when you get more than 2x closer. And in low light, it does a great job letting light in but attracts little grains and noise at the same time. The ultra-wide lens performs impressively with auto-HDR, shooting colorful images that came out softer than that of the main camera.

The 32MP selfie camera features an auto-beauty mode that brightens the skin tone even when the beauty mode is turned off. However, many fans might find it a bit annoying since it works when not needed. Meanwhile, the selfie camera shoots excellent photos with enough details and sharpness, then why the need for skin smoothing.

Performance, Storage, and Software

From the heart of Vivo X80 5G, there’s an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor paired with Vivo’s VI+ chip. Having these two powerhouses, the X80 5G has shown stability in any situation. Be it multitasking, video streaming, gaming, and web browsing, this phone handles every task thrown at it with ease. Also, you’re free from lags and heating up of the system while playing demanding games like PUGB mobile or Call of Duty mobile.

With up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, the Vivo X80 5G loads apps as fast as you would expect from a flagship smartphone. You also have a lesser 8GB of RAM with either 128GB or 512GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, no Micro SD card slot for expansion of memory.

For software, the Vivo X80 5G features the FunTouch 12 interface with Android 12 OS on top. The FunTouch interface is well designed as we all know, but the only downsides are the tons of bloatware and ads that do pop up in the notification. We just hope that Vivo would address that with the next update.

Battery

The Vivo X80 5G packs a 4500 mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. The phone will easily last a full day for a light user. Those that play intensive games with hours of shooting videos should expect around 4-5 hours of screen time. It only takes 45mins to charge the Vivo X80 5G from empty to the full battery with the 80W fast charger.
