Tecno Pova 4 Pro Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

The new Tecno Pova 4 Pro is where the company sets standard on a redesigned user interface while offering one of the best mid-range performance with outstanding rear camera. Tecno’s line of budget-friendly smartphones has been the second option for users who still can’t afford the expensive phones most well-known brands regarded as “cheap”. The Pova lineup is where Tecno proves its capabilities of offering budget and reliable smartphones which have impressed us so far.

The brand’s new Tecno Pova 4 Pro doesn’t come with the best specs we’ve seen on any smartphone, but it’s still one of the best in its price range. The design alone tells you how well-built the Pova 4 Pro is, and when you look at the specs sheet, the smartphone did nothing but Justice to both price and features.

In addition to that, the Tecno Pova 4 Pro is equipped with a big 6000mAh battery that’s supported by a 45W fast charger. This means that anyone that prioritizes battery capacity in a smartphone has found one at an affordable amount.

The MediaTek Helio G99 processor inside the Tecno Pova 4 Pro is one of the strongest of its class. So when combined with the phone’s long-lasting battery life and powerful Al-powered camera sensor, the Tecno Pova 4 Pro can deliver a smooth performance on every aspect just for a price that sits between everyone’s budget. Tecno Pova 4 Pro: Price in Nigeria and Release Date

On October 10, Tecno announced the launch of the new Pova 4 Pro in Bangladesh for BDT 26,990. However, the international release date of the new phone hasn’t been confirmed yet, so the phone isn’t widely available for purchase.

For the price, the Tecno Pova 4 Pro is priced at ₦211,000 ($265) which will get you 8GB/256GB of storage configuration and the Fluorite Blue color. The Pova 4 Pro currently has only one variant for both color and storage unit, but we might see other variants when the smartphone launches globally.

Design

The Pova lineup has featured one of the company’s best smartphone designs, so the Tecno Pova 4 Pro isn’t an exception. What impressed us the most is the geometric aesthetic on the rear which will live to become a design language other phones will emulate. The huge camera module would have been obstructive if not for those brilliant aesthetics that make it blend perfectly with the rest of the back cover.

Also, the camera module is bent nicely on the surface without bumping up too much like what we see on most budget smartphones, but the surface and frame are made of plastic as usual. Nevertheless, the build quality doesn’t feel less solid because of the plastic material that feels like metal.

The Pova 4 Pro does weigh much considering the 6000mAh battery it carries inside. The smartphone has a dimension of 164 x 77 x 9.19mm and a weight of 210g which is thick and heavy indeed. A fingerprint scanner is integrated into the power button for unlocking the phone, while the volume rocker is placed slightly above it at the top right corner.

On the left, there’s a SIM tray that reserves a slot for inserting a micro SD card. The likes of a microphone, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and speaker grille are placed on the bottom of the phone, while another stereo speaker grille sits on the top.

The design of the Pova 4 Pro looks very attractive, especially on the rear which the company explained to be inspired by a meteorite motif known as the Widmanstatten pattern. At least I can confidently say that when it comes to design, nothing separates the Pova 4 Pro from other expensive phones.

Display

While other brands are still using an IPS LCD display to make up for their product’s cheaper price, Tecno has used an AMOLED display in addition to a Full HD+ resolution on the screen of the Pova 4 Pro which measures 6.66-inch. The display also features a 90Hz of refresh rate which can automatically switch between 60Hz and 90Hz based on the application you’re running.

The Tecno Pova 4 Pro has received a massive upgrade on the screen when compared to its standard version. The standard Tecno Pova 4 is built with an IPS LCD technology and 720p resolution. This means that you can have a much better viewing experience on the Pova 4 Pro which features sharper colors and contrast with higher resolution than its predecessor.

Camera

A dual camera setup is on the rear of the Tecno Pova 4 Pro, featuring a 50MP main sensor with an unspecified second sensor. We’re pretty much in support of Tecno’s decision of shifting the whole shooting focus to the 50MP sensor instead of cutting it into minimal auxiliary sensors that would struggle to deliver decent shots.

Fortunately, the 50MP main camera did impress us with its shooting capabilities, though the absence of an ultra-wide lens became noticed at some point, especially while capturing wide-angle shots. But we didn’t have any issue with that because this phone is reasonably priced and most ultra-wide lens doesn’t take beautiful pictures.

Thankfully, the 50MP main camera can shoot as high as 3x digital zoom while the results remain sharp, colorful, and well-detailed. The provided beauty effect on the rear and front cameras will be very useful for those who need it. The smartphone comes with an 8MP selfie camera with a LED flash which you can turn on while shooting videos.

Performance, Storage, and Software

The MediaTek Helio G99 processor is the type you’ll find in any smartphone in the same price range as the Tecno Pova 4 Pro. However, the Helio G99 isn’t exactly a high-performance chipset, so there’s nothing much to expect from the performance of the Tecno Pova 4 Pro.

But, the phone really did well while playing some games under low graphic settings. We opened multiple apps to test the smartphone’s multitasking strength and it showed no stuttering, thanks to the massive RAM storage of 8GB and 256GB ROM.

The Tecno Pova 4 Pro is based on the Android 12 OS with Tecno’s custom HIOS 12 overlay on top. There aren’t too many limitations on the HiOS 12 except for the bloatware and annoying advertisements. This keeps HiOS behind the likes of One UI, MIUI, and OxygenOS. And a lot more upgrades need to be done to compete with them.

Tecno Pova 4 Pro: Battery

The battery life of the Tecno Pova 4 Pro is very impressive with the help of the 6000mAh battery. The smartphone can last for a day or even more on moderate use. Also, the 45W fast charger is enough to charge the huge battery capacity from zero to 100% without taking much time.
