iTel A60s Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

iTel mobile the king of cheap phones in Africa has recently released the iTel A60s in the Nigerian market. The iTel A60s has similar specs with the base iTel A60 4G but with an upgraded 4GB /64GB RAM and storage configurations. This makes the A60s a better option for those who want large storage space at an affordable price.

The iTel A60s is an entry-level smartphone that ticks all round thanks to its 60Hz refresh rate, 6.6-inch large display, 2 rear cameras, a mega 5000mAh battery capacity, and other intriguing features you can get at a cheap price. Also, the phone is strongly built with a design you can mistake as flagship which bridged the gap between it and other costlier midrange models.

Interestingly, the latest iTel A60s offers all the premium and modern features you’ll ever need in a smartphone. However, how does the phone perform in real life? Let’s find out as we review and usher you into the world of the captivating iTel A60s.

Design and Build-up

After unboxing and peeling off the screen protector, you’ll notice the A60s has a pre-applied screen protector which is an added advantage and saves you some bucks from buying another one. For those who like flashy phones, the iTel A60s is made for you as you can buy the phone in enticing colours of Sunshine Gold, Glacier Green, and Shadow Black.

Flipping over to the back of the phone, you’ll notice a square-shaped camera module. Inside it is the trendy large iPhone-type lens that we’ve seen on some recent Infinix and Tecno phones. Also, there’s a fingerprint scanner inside it that’s quite unnoticeable but we feel it’s kind of outdated in 2023. However, if you’re not satisfied with it, you can add some money and go for the new iTel S23 with more upgraded features.

We’re amazed with the iTel A60s intersecting path design that iTel claims it was inspired by the Streamer Crystal Diamond cutting process. This makes it more gorgeous and equally creates a nice texture for a comfy hand grip. Meanwhile, it’s good to know that the A60s is made from plastic material which we’re not surprised to see considering it’s in the midrange segment.

The phone has a headphone jack that’s located above alongside a SIM tray that houses two Nano-SIM and a microSD card for storage expansion by the left side. On the right is the volume rocker and power button while the bottom part is occupied by a microphone, MicroUSB port, and a loud single speaker.

Display

Display

The iTel A60s flaunts a 6.6-inch 720p IPS display with a 60Hz refresh rate. Of course, we didn’t expect anything more considering the price of the phone. However, the phone doesn’t have many bezels, plus the display quality is just fine as you’d expect from a 720p screen. This makes the A60s good for both indoor and outdoor usages, but you’ll have to increase the brightness level at some stage.

That’s not all about the display as the iTel A60s has HDR support for YouTube up to 720p, but we recommend watching it at 480p as 4k videos stutter sometimes. Meanwhile, this iTel machine has one of the best displays you can get at this price range which makes it one of the best features of the phone.

Camera

Camera

The iTel A60s comes with a dual camera lens at the rear that includes an 8MP primary shooter that’s assisted with a QVGA lens. Upfront is a 5MP sensor that’s housed inside the teardrop notch.

As expected, the camera performance is quite decent with details, quality colour reproduction, and focus mode. However, photos are best to be taken in daylight conditions, but with the LED light, you’ll manage to get an average shot at night.

When it comes to videography, recording is capped at 1080p@30fps for both the selfie and rear cameras. However, the A60s will not give you the best shots for social media upload, but considering the price, it’s easy to forgive iTel’s shortcomings in the camera aspect.

Processor Performance, Storage, and Software

The iTel A60s slightly fell short in performance as it has an entry-level Unisoc SC9863A chipset with a max clock speed of 1.6Ghz. This makes it not the best for gaming, but the phone can conveniently handle less intensive games like Talking Tom, Cooking Fever, and the like.

However, apart from gaming, you can enjoy using the phone for your daily tasks without any issues. Meanwhile, iTel has decided to take storage memory to another level. Unlike the A60, the iTel A60s has an upgraded RAM of 4GB and 64GB built-in storage that’ll give you enough space for all your files. That’s not all as you’re also getting an expandable storage of up to 128GB through the SDcard slot.

Fortunately, the iTel A60s debuts with a lower version of the Google Android 12 (Android S Go) that has an expandable RAM and built-in storage of up to 8GB and 128GB respectively via MemFusion. Also, it comes with fewer bloatware apps and numerous battery optimizations that include ultra power saving and intelligent power-saving scenes.

iTel A60s Review: Battery Capacity and Charging

The iTel A60s has a 5000mAh battery cell as with most phones today, but you’re guaranteed full day usage on moderate use.

When it’s time to charge, iTel has not yet adopted the Type-C port, so you’re stuck with a 10W charger that powers through a MicroUSB 2.0 port. Since it’s not a fast-charging phone, the iTel A60s will take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to charge from 0-100%.
