Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

The past couple of years has been the moment for Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series which represents most of the company’s best-selling phones. They’ve employed a marketing strategy of releasing phones that is either focused on performance or experience. However, their latest Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is focused on the latter to deliver an unrivalled imagining experience.

Recently, other smartphone manufacturers are gradually directing their focus towards imagining because that’s what customers are mostly enticed with, but they’re yet to make it easier for customers to buy their phones due to the hefty price tag. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ comes with a 200MP main camera which sets new standards in imagining compared to other phones of the same price range.

The camera is undoubtedly the best selling point of the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, but the smartphone doesn’t compromise performance or battery capacity. Amazingly, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ leverages every great aspect of a flagship phone, starting with a powerful Mediatek Dimensity 1080 processor, 5000mAh battery capacity, and 120W fast charging support.

The display as well is very enhanced with a 6.67-inch screen that features a 120Hz of refresh rate and 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is one out of many amazing phones that have been released by the company this year. Now let’s find out more about Xiaomi’s newest flagship device through this review.

Design

Design

The appearance of Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ looks very attractive in the company’s premium design. The 3D curved glass on the back has a matte finish to ensure a comfortable grip, while the frame is made from aluminium. The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ comes in Blue, White, Trend Edition, and Black colors which feels great to behold.

On the top left corner of the rear, you’ll find the same rectangular camera module which we’ve seen on multiple smartphones. The camera module houses the main camera sensor on the top which is stamped with a “200MP” logo on its side.

The ultra-wide sensor is on the bottom while the macro lens sits between the two big sensors. Meanwhile, the volume rocker and power button are placed on the right edge of the phone while a SIM tray is emplaced on the left. The new Redmi Note 12 Pro+ uses an under-display fingerprint scanner placed on the centre half of the screen for unlocking the phone.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is equipped with dual stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom. An infrared sensor is also available which makes the phone double as a remote control. The smartphone is also equipped with an NFC function which is capable of stimulating bus cards and door keys.

The design of the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is solid as expected from a flagship device. It seems the company has reserved this design language for its premium phones since the flagship Xiaomi 12 series features the same design, except for the camera module.

Display

Display

The front of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ flaunts a 6.67-inch screen with a punch-hole cutout on the top centre for the 16MP front-facing sensor. The display features a high refresh rate of 120Hz, a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and a 100% DCI P3 color gamut.

The screen bezels are thin and the punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera is relatively small to reduce the defects caused by the digging hole. The display performs quite much faster while scrolling through the screen. Part of this is the OLED panel which works responsively with the help of the high refresh rate.

With up to 900nits of maximum brightness, the screen is clearly visible outdoors, and it also has Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support for streaming content. The 6.67-inch screen has a screen-to-body ratio of 86.80% which is very large for watching movies.

Camera

Camera

The 200MP main camera on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ uses Samsung’s HPX image sensor and optical image stabilization support. There’s also an ultra-wide angle sensor of 8MP and 2MP macro lens which you’ll barely use because the main camera is capable of delivering excellent shots in any given shooting mode.

In addition to that, the main camera can also provide up to 2x zoom shooting focal length which means that the absence of a telephoto lens won’t hurt that much. The camera captures at 12.5MP shot sample by default, but you can shoot 50MP photos by accessing the Ultra HD Mode in the camera app.

Also, you can shoot as high as 200MP photos by lighting up the “200MP” of the shooting interface. When you compare the three shooting samples, 200MP and 50MP are more improved than 12.5MP. And when you compare 200MP with 50MP, there isn’t much difference, though 200MP is arguably better when capturing beautiful scenes, and it allows you to crop in without losing details.

The colors of images that are captured using the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ in sunny environments tend to be vibrant, mostly when you’re capturing images of the sky which is too blue. Night photography on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ isn’t bad or lacking details. Photos look very bright and sharp as well, though capturing in low-light scenarios results in a color loss at times.

Performance, Storage, and Software

The Mediatek Dimensity 1080 processor inside the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ consists of two 2.6GHz Cortex-A78 large cores and six 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 small cores. The performance of the phone is very powerful while playing most graphics-demanding games with a full 120Hz of refresh rate and ultra-high resolution.

With the help of an infrared thermometer, the phone doesn’t get too hot even after hours of gaming. In some cases, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ can’t handle games like Genshin Impact, but you can reduce the game frame rates to 60Hz if you want to get a smooth game process. We’re very happy to say the Note 12 Pro+ is a great gaming device that can be compared to the likes of Poco F4 GT and Realme 9 Pro Plus.

For storage, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ comes with two storage variants of 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB. The smartphone uses UFS2.2 flash memory and LPDDR4x memory without any option to expand the storage through a microSD card slot.

Out of the box, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ comes with the company’s custom MIUI 13 interface based on the Android 12 OS. Xiaomi’s MIUI interface has been one of the best, competing with Samsung’s One UI in terms of features. The MIUI 13 interface enables a lot of handy functionalities, including the ability to remove pre-installed apps.

Fortunately, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ will be among the first Xiaomi phones to receive MIUI 14 that’s known for its sleek design changes and customisable options.

Battery Capacity and Charging

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+: Battery Capacity and Charging

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ indeed comes with 120W fast charging support that’s among the biggest we’ve seen in any smartphone. But If the fast charger is capable of charging the 5000mAh battery inside this phone within 20mins (as advertised) is something we’re yet to confirm.

Nevertheless, the battery capacity is big enough to last the whole day, and when combined with this super fast charging support, will ease the stress of charging the phone all the time.
