EMUI 13: Release Date, Features, and Eligible Huawei Devices

Unsurprisingly, it seems like the season of EMUI 12 is coming to an end, as the Asian company known as Huawei is set to launch a new version of their custom EMUI interface. While some users are still upgrading to the EMUI 12, many that are using the eligible devices can’t wait to experience the refreshed new features EMUI 13 will bring to the table.

Huawei released EMUI 12 last year, designing it with the same features as HarmonyOS 2.0 which is only available to Chinese users. Recently, they also launched HarmonyOS 3.0 which proves that the EMUI 13 will be available for global users any time soon.

EMUI 13 is expected to be available for smartphones in the company’s Mate 50 lineup. This was confirmed when the new interface is seen in the specs of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro which has been listed on the company’s website. But still, Huawei hasn’t made an official statement on the launch of EMUI 13.

Regarding the EMUI 13 base Android OS, we weren’t able to gather enough information since the company is yet to make an announcement on that. Meanwhile, Huawei has designed the HarmonyOS exclusively for Chinese users, meaning that global users will get the Android OS. And since it’s clear that EMUI 13 will run the Android OS, then it could be Android 12.

On the other hand, the possibility of running the Android 13 OS depends on the release of EMUI 13. However, the Android 13 OS is yet to be released, so Huawei will have to stick with the Android 12 OS.

Interestingly, it’s believed that the Huawei EMUI 13 will introduce new changes, especially on service widgets and swipe-up gestures. The new software will also bring inner features which we expected to be on security and other elements.

EMUI 13 Release Date

Release Date

As we said earlier, Huawei hasn’t released any statement about the possible launch of a new EMUI version, even during the regular Huawei Developer Conference event which the company uses to discuss the news that’ll be made official later. But last year, we witness the launch of the EMUI 12 with the Mate 40 series lineup, and now we have the new Mate 50 series coming soon which proves that a new EMUI version will follow.

Despite the speculations, no one has an idea when the EMUI 13 will be released, and neither do we. All we can say is that the EMUI 13 will be released in the coming months, probably before the launch of the Huawei mate 50 Pro.

EMUI 13 Features

EMUI 13 Features

With the release of EMUI 13, Huawei intends to bring more advanced features compared to the previous versions of the software. These features will help to improve your user experience by giving you quick access to your most used apps and windows through widget services.

Amid all we’ve said above, the features of EMUI 13 are yet to be announced by Huawei. But it’s obvious that these features will be inspired by HarmonyOS 3.0, just like we saw with HarmonyOS 2.0 and EMUI 12 a year ago.

Meanwhile, Huawei is not fully backed by Android which led to the loss of access to some Google apps. However, the Asian tech giant has been making continuous development on EMUI to blend perfectly with the Android OS and give customers access to Google services using the open-source Android project or AOSP.

Now let’s see what Huawei is preparing for us with the release of EMUI 13.

Security

EMUI 13 comes with more advanced security and privacy features which will be achieved by the security and privacy centre in the phone’s settings. Through the privacy centre, you can closely monitor how apps access your data and know the permissions your apps use.

The security centre ensures that your data is safe by scanning apps and the entire system to report viruses and suspicious apps. While the security and privacy features are available in the previous EMUI 12, the one that comes with the EMUI 13 is more solid to eliminate all kinds of malware.

Widgets

The addition of widget services is one of the most significant features that come with the new Huawei interface. Finally, the global users will get the widget experience that was only meant for the Chinese users with HarmonyOS 3 and 2. The widget section of the EMUI 13 is similar to that of legacy Android. It previews apps like Camera, Contacts, Notepad, etc.

You’ll also have quick access to your music app which displays the music that is currently on play. The inclusion of widgets will bring an enhanced UI in which you’ll not only have quick access to apps and information but numerous handy tools.

To save more screen space, you’ll also be able to create widget groups and add apps to them. Widget services are what every Huawei user will be very excited to get since it wasn’t included in the EMUI 12 of last year. The addition of widgets to the latest EMUI OS will bring a more attractive look to the home screen of eligible devices.

Beta Sharing

The latest EMUI 13 will bring a new system of sharing files with just a few clicks on your screen. All you need to do is to long press on any file, pic, or text you wish to share and drag it to SuperHub. Then you can choose to paste or share them with your connected devices.

That’s not all for the features that’ll come with EMUI 13 since the features are not announced by Huawei. We believe they’re still more to come with Huawei interface except for what we’ve said here.
