Google Pixel 7 Pro Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

The newly launched Google Pixel 7 Pro looks to maintain Google’s recent surge in premium smartphones. When you hear about the Google Pixel 6 Pro, the first thing that comes to your mind is the smartphone’s amazing camera capabilities. However, that hasn’t changed with the new Google Pixel 7 Pro which comes with a more powerful camera and a price that is relatively cheaper than Apple and Samsung’s flagship phones.

Google has built the Pixel 7 Pro to offer a lot more than the Pixel 6 Pro of last year. But despite the upgrades, Google still kept the price below $1k while bringing a smarter Tensor G2 processor to lead the performance of the Google Pixel 7 Pro. And inside the camera bar, the telephoto lens features a longer 5x optical and 30x digital zoom.

We’re overwhelmed with the software features of the Google Pixel 7 Pro, same as the battery capacity and fast charger which proves that the standards set by the Google Pixel 6 Pro remained solid a year later. Interestingly, there’re new changes in the design of the Google Pixel 7 Pro, but it doesn’t look entirely different from what we saw a year ago.

Honestly, there’s a lot to be excited about in the Google Pixel 7 Pro. The company hasn’t released the best Android smartphone, but bringing a device that can compete with the best within a few years of joining the competition is a very great achievement.

Price and Release Date

The speculations surrounding the possibility of a new Google Pixel 7 Pro all started in May, but it was confirmed to be true when Google unveiled the new smartphone alongside its lower variant, the Pixel 7 on 6th October. However, The two flagship models were later released on 13th October and are currently on sale across several regions.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro is available for purchase starting at ₦658,000 ($899) for the 128GB base storage variant. Also, you can buy the higher 256GB and 512GB storage variants for ₦731,000 ($999) and ₦804,000 ($1099) respectively.

Design

Design

The Google Pixel 7 Pro’s excellent design started with its predecessor which flaunts a unique camera bar and a two-tone colour finish on the rear. The design layout is quite different from other smartphones, especially on the camera module, but we love the new standards which have inspired the design of many phones we’re seeing today.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro features the bold design language of its predecessor while having a few tweaks that gave it a refreshed new look. You’ll still find the camera bar placed in the same position as its predecessor, but the change from glass case to aluminium is quite noticeable.

The well-shaped cutout for the sensors looks very neat and attractive, while the smartphone comes in several colours such as Obsidian, Snow, and Hazel. Each of the colours blends perfectly with the Gold stainless steel frame to create a very attractive design that offers a satisfying pleasure when you take a look at the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Despite having a stainless steel frame, the new device also has a plastic mmWave cutout on the frame which looks smaller and painted to avoid being noticed. Another change in the design of the Google Pixel 7 Pro is the placement of the power button and volume rocker which has been lowered a bit for a reason that is unknown to us.

Display

Display

Occupying the front panel of the Google Pixel 7 Pro is a 6.7-inch QLED display supported by an LTPO OLED panel that offers a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels. Equipping this huge 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz of refresh rate and 1500 nits of max brightness is another amazing job for Google on its newest flagship phone.

The display is enriched with vibrant colours, sharp contrast, and great viewing angles which you’ll be very excited to watch movies and play games on. Thanks to the QLED + LTPO OLED panel and 120Hz refresh rate which makes everything feels smooth and easy-going as you scroll through the screen.

The silently curved edges around the Pixel 7 Pro now feels more comfortable to use than its predecessor, while a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is used to protect the screen against scratches. Google has been paying great attention to the display of their smartphones which seems to be one of their selling points.

Interestingly, they have decided to bring back the face unlock feature to the Pixel 7 Pro which we saw last on the Pixel 4. The face unlock works responsively like that of Apple and Samsung phones. Meanwhile, you can also use the under-display fingerprint scanner on the lower half of the screen if you want to approve Google Pay transactions, access locked apps and other things.

Camera

Camera

The improvements Google has made on the camera of the Pixel 7 Pro have drawn much attention towards the new phone. The camera is not just as great as that of its predecessor, but able to capture sharper images. These upgrades are mostly on the telephoto lens where the 4x zoom lens has been increased to 5x. Also, the 48MP telephoto camera has its Super Res Zoom upgraded from 20x to 30x.

Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 7 Pro will need a lot more upgrades to compete with the 100x Space Zoom on Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra, but the results are impressively sharp and well-detailed on the Pixel 7 Pro’s telephoto lens. On the main camera, Google had to stick with the same 50MP sensor while bringing a new 2x digital zoom just like Apple did on the iPhone 14.

Photos captured on the main camera look incredibly great just like we saw on the Pixel 6 Pro. The colours, brightness, contrast, and saturation are well-handled to capture detailed images in all lighting conditions. Google’s top-notch image processing software performs diligently to deliver stunning images out of the three sensors on the Pixel 7 Pro.

Next is the ultra-wide camera which features an upgraded 125% field of view, so you can get extremely wide vistas and tall buildings in one shot using the 12MP sensor. Videos are recorded at 4k resolution both on the rear and the 10.8MP selfie camera on the front.

Performance, Storage, and Software

Performance, Storage, and Software

The Google Pixel 7 Pro is built with Google’s second-generation Tensor G2 processor. However, the phone’s overall performance is as smooth as other phones in the same segment. You’ll find the performance very solid as you take on your day-to-day activities with the phone, thanks to the stock Android interface and the Al features enabled by the Tensor G2 chipset.

Tensor G2 chip

Google’s Tensor G2 chip also unlocks more functionalities, like allowing you to have Google Assistant call and talk to customer service in several places. Also, you’ve access to other exclusive features that will make your experience with the Google Pixel 7 Pro very interesting.

Google hasn’t changed anything on the storage unit of this phone, so you’ll get the same 12GB RAM paired with either 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage. As usual, the option to expand the memory is not available due to the absence of a micro SD card slot.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro may have the Android 13 OS, but the features aren’t entirely different from the Android 12 OS in its predecessor. One of the few exclusive features of the Pixel 7 Pro is the ability to remove blurs and noise from your photos using the photo Unblur feature in the Google Photo app. This is not something to be so excited about because it’s relatively the opposite of the samples advertised by Google.

The Magic Eraser is another feature introduced by Google for removing unwanted objects or people from your photos. Asides from these features, you’ll also have the same customization options of Android OS, backed by three years of OS updates and five for security updates.

Battery Capacity and Fast Charge

Google Pixel 7 Pro: Battery Capacity and Fast Charge

The Google Pixel 7 Pro offers an extended battery life, thanks to the 5000mAh battery. When we used the phone to handle some heavy tasks like gaming, opening multiple apps, or any other task that will demand the whole effort of the Tensor G2 processor, it nearly lasted the whole day which is absolutely incredible.

Also, the fast charging is now increased to 30W, so you won’t have to wait longer before getting back to work with your Pixel 7 Pro. Fortunately, you’re to enjoy 23W wireless charging alongside a reverse wireless charging unlike most recent Android phones.
