Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC Review: Features, Specs, and Current Price

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic period when the Global economic situation was very bad, lots of budget-friendly smartphones were released by the manufacturers. Samsung produced a cheaper version of its flagship smartphone known as the Galaxy S20 FE. Even Apple went as far as producing a fairly-priced iPhone SE which the company wasn’t known for.

In the same period, Xiaomi unveiled a new smartphone called the Poco X3 NFC that offers top-notch performance for a price that is easily affordable. And while being released two years ago, the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC remains one of the best mid-range phones you can buy till date.

There’s no doubt this phone will offer you a near-flagship experience with its Snapdragon 732G processor, a quad-camera setup that consists of a 64MP primary shooter and its auxiliary ultra-wide, depth, and macro sensors. The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC is a great budget device that offers the complete value of what you paid for.

You still get a smooth 120Hz refresh rate from the 6.67-inch display with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage based on the model you choose. And if you aren’t concerned about the looks, then you wouldn’t bother being with this phone’s somewhat brutish design with IP53-rated dust and water protection. Design

It’s still acceptable that Xiaomi had to tradeoff a refined design for this phone’s superior quality. That’s often the case with budget smartphones, but the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC here should have done better. When it comes to design, the phone is well-built but lacks a good-looking finish for the plastic rear panel.

The plastic back has a vertical band of the diagonal line bearing the company’s “Poco” logo, and you also get an IP53 rating for protection against dust and water.

There’s also a rectangular camera bump in a large circular lip that seems a bit of a nice touch to the plastic material. The side-mounted fingerprint scanner is cool, you hardly find a smartphone with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner at this price point.

The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC features an IR blaster which allows you to control your TV and hi-fi with this phone and just like the name suggests, the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC also supports NFC contactless payments.

The 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers would be a great addition to those concerned with audio and gaming. The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC appears to be bulky, weighing around 215g though it’s assumed to accommodate the big 5160mAh battery. You either get this phone in Cobalt Blue or Shadow Gray.

Display

For displaying content, the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC has a big IPS LCD that measures 6.67-inch. The screen comes with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels), 395 PPI density, and a 20.9 aspect ratio. You can also watch HDR10 content with this phone which is rare to find in most phones of the same price range.

The screen only stretched to 450 nits of max brightness which isn’t enough for direct sunlight usage, but still serves well while outdoors. There’s a 120Hz refresh rate which is the most outstanding spec of this phone. This high refresh rate will make scrolling through different apps on your screen easy and fast.

Anyways, that exceptional AMOLED panel will always be missed, but having a 120Hz refresh rate at this price point is something to be thankful for in this phone. A punch-hole cutout sits on the top of the screen for the selfie camera.

Camera

Camera

On the back, the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC flaunts a quadruple setup where a 64MP (f/1.9 aperture Sony IMX682) sensor is the main snapper. The main shooter is supported by an ultra-wide sensor of 13MP with f/2.2 aperture and double 2MP sensors with f/2.4 aperture for the depth and macro lens. The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC takes 16MP photos by default, though you can enable capturing full 64MP photos through a dedicated shooting mode.

The main and ultra-wide cameras are the ones that are mostly used because they are sharp and will offer you the best results. The other two are just there if you need to take portrait shots or close-up photos which people don’t use occasionally. You can capture nice, colorful, and detailed images in good light conditions with the main camera. The ultra-wide shooter lags when compared with the main shooter, but is still one of the best in budget smartphones.

In low-light conditions, photos weren’t too bad but simply good even without an OIS which you shouldn’t expect at this price point. Despite the absence of a telephoto lens, you can zoom in without losing any details with the main camera. Also, the front camera can capture nice selfies just like a 20MP sensor should.

Performance, Storage, and Software

The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC can serve as a gaming phone for those on a budget. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G was released just a month before Xiaomi used it for this phone, but that’s not the major concern though. The Poco X3 NFC is up to the task while launching apps, browsing the internet, scrolling through media feeds, and most especially playing games.

Graphics is also top quality with the Adreno 618 which does a great job with achieving stable frame rates while playing some graphics-intensive games, games like PUGB Mobile or Asphalt Nitro which defaults to high frame rates and HD graphics.

The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC comes with 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB internal storage options. A micro SD card slot is available for the expansion of memory up to 512GB.

The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC runs Xiaomi’s MIUI 12.5 interface based on the Android 10 OS There’re loads of pre-installed apps on the home screen which some users might not be comfortable with. The likes of Cleaner, Themes, File Manager, Music, Mi Video, Gallery, Notes, Weather, and the company’s Mi Browser. Xiaomi also promised a year of OS updates for this phone.

Battery

With the 5160mAh battery, the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC can run for 18hrs on a single charge while you perform your daily tasks with the phone. And if you limit your usage to only messaging, making calls, or possibly reducing the screen’s refresh rate to 60Hz, the phone will easily last up to two days.
