Android 12 on OnePlus OxygenOS 12: Release Date, Features, and Eligible OnePlus Devices

Google has officially released the Android 12 version of its operating system back in October for phone developers to start optimising it with their own skin. The OnePlus OxygenOS 12 introduces varieties of improvements and new features with a revamped user interface that’s similar to that of Samsung’s One UI design language.

While the Android 12 has already been released, some OEMs like OnePlus are still struggling to rollout last year’s Android 11 to some devices. This is a big downgrade to OnePlus as other smartphone vendors like Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony, etc have already completed the Android 11 distribution and started rolling out the latest software to its eligible devices.

Nevertheless, you might be wondering whether or not your OnePlus phone will be eligible for the latest Google update that’ll come along with OxygenOS 12 skin. However, OnePlus’s software distribution plan is pretty clear. The China-based company issue one year major Android update to her affordable phones, whereas the OnePlus Nord series and other flagship devices receive either two or three major OS updates.

This post will enlighten our readers on the Android 12 and OxygenOS 12 release date, features, and when to expect it on their respective smartphones.

The OxygenOS 12 is spreading fast across many OnePlus devices after making its way to the latest OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. The latest software will be distributed alongside Google Android 12 and should be making its way to other devices in the upcoming months.

The first OxygenOS 12 beta version went live on October 4, 2021, for many OnePlus flagship devices. After two months of testing, the company finally released the stable version of the software on December 7 starting with the OnePlus 9 series.

OxygenOS 12 Features

A new video released prior to the stable rollout of the update to devices shows off the amazing features coming to OxygenOS 12. Some of the new features include the new Game Mode, Work-Life Balance 2.0 mode, Canvas 2.0, Enhanced Dark Mode setting, and many others.

Canvas 2.0

This is a major upgrade to the Canvas Always-on display (AOD) on last year’s OxygenOS 11 that lets you use your favourite character or photo on your AOD screen. Fortunately, Canvas 2.0 brings in more support for colours and personalisation.

Enhanced Dark Mode

Instead of the usual black background, the new software added three different black levels to the new Dark Mode. This allows users to switch between the Grey, Medium Black, and Deep Black backgrounds.

Work-Life Balance 2.0

This feature will help keep users concentrated on their work by showing only work-related notifications like WhatsApp, Skype, Email, Outlook, etc. This will help those working at home by removing unnecessary distractions. Fortunately, the Work-Life Balance 2.0 can be auto-enabled on a particular location, time, or even WiFi network.

New Game Mode

The OxygenOS 12 game mode settings now include some handy options for gamers. There’s a data monitor feature that’ll keep gamers within their time plan. A Voice Modulator will change the user’s voice while on multiplayer games.

Other notable features of the OnePlus OxygenOS 12 include a Private Safe Locker that allows you to hide important files, documents, photos, and videos in the File Manager and use password to protect them. More features are expected to arrive in the Theme Store and Spotify Watch faces.
