It’s quite surprising to see another smartphone called Nord CE right after the first Nord and yet another Nord 2. Since the so-called OnePlus Nord CE 5G is a very good smartphone with a very powerful mid-range chipset and specs to match, nothing can take away its position as one of the best affordable mid-range phones that were released in 2021.
The OnePlus Nord CE 5G has a 6.43-inch screen with 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G chipset which supports 5G network connectivity. The phone flaunts a 64MP triple camera setup at the rear and a 16MP selfie shooter upfront. However, the battery capacity isn’t that good with 4500mAh, but a 30W fast charging support is enough to make up for it.
Mid-range phones aren’t hard to find on the market. Even if you’re a budget buyer, you’ll definitely get one and the OnePlus Nord CE 5G is a good option. We’re still surprised that the company went too far in making the price seem very affordable, and you should know that comes with some cutbacks. Thankfully, this phone still maintained a 5G network connectivity which is enough reason why you should consider it.

Design
OnePlus clearly made this phone look like the original OnePlus Nord, making them differ only in terms of build quality. OnePlus has decided to go for a plastic back instead of glass on this phone, which might expose it to smudges and fingerprints. On the other hand, the plastic back helps to keep a 170g lightweight. Also, the OnePlus Nord CE is slim and can easily fit into your pocket.
The OnePlus Nord CE 5G still has the same rounded camera bump just like its predecessor. Upfront, the it has a clunky pill-shaped cutout for the selfie camera which is a big change from the capsule-shaped double selfie camera on the Nord. When it comes to build quality and durability, the Nord CE 5G lacks a lot of features which makes it less premium.
The usual “alert slider” which allows users to switch between notification sounds, vibrate only, and do not disturb is missing on this phone. Asides from that, you get your normal 3.5mm headphone jack for wired fans. The OnePlus Nord CE 5G will be available in Blue Void, Charkoal Ink, and Silver Ray colors.

Display
The 6.43-inch flat screen on the Nord CE 5G is built with a Fluid AMOLED panel which has 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. This is a poor display quality when some cheaper phones like the Poco X4 Pro have a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the AMOLED panel helps the phone in producing quality images and a responsive under-display fingerprint scanner.
Nevertheless, this is a very good display which every smartphone lover will love to have. The 90Hz refresh rate helps for a fast response while playing games, watching movies, or scrolling through different apps on your screen. A corning Gorilla Glass 5 is on the top for protection.

Camera
For the camera, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G has a triple camera setup on the rear. The main camera features a 64MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. However, despite having a 64MP main shooter, the Nord CE 5G has no match for the 48MP and 50MP sensors in its other two relatives in terms of performance. Meanwhile, its main camera captures decent images in good light conditions but starts to lose details at night.
The main camera also manages to produce decent images in dynamic range, but bear in mind that photos appear a bit soft with less than enough details. You have to rely on digital zooming due to the absence of a telephoto lens. The camera suffers a lot due to the lack of OIS and there are noticeable blurs while taking shots. The 8MP ultra-wide sensor performs very well for the price, while the 2MP depth sensor helps in taking portrait shots.
Low-light photography is not the best nor the worst, maybe average could be the best explanation for the less-detailed images that are captured using the Night mode. The 16MP selfie camera is very nice for selfies. You can also take portrait shots with it and they come out sharp and natural. The front camera can record Full HD videos at 30 or 60fps.
Performance, Storage, and Software
The OnePlus Nord CE 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 chipset which is a slight downgrade from the Snapdragon 765 on the OnePlus Nord. Meanwhile, the Nord 2 has surpassed these two phones in terms of performance, packing a Mediatek Dimensity 1200 chipset. The OnePlus Nord CE 5G is very responsive for your day-to-day task especially while browsing which you probably spend most of your time on.
Also, the phone flaunts 6GB /8GB /12GB of RAM as well as 128GB and 256GB of in-built storage. There’s no dedicated microSD card slot for expansion of storage, so you have to be with the provided storage which is enough.
The OnePlus-owned OxygenOS has been one of the best skin rivalling Google’s Pixel software. However, it runs the latest version of this interface along with Android 11 operating system on top. OnePlus has promised two major Android updates with three years of security updates in the OnePlus Nord CE 5G.
