Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G: Full Review, Features, and Price in Nigeria

Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G camera performance and price

The Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G can be the favourite choice for those looking for an attractive design with an impressive display and good camera features like that of DSRL. But do the Reno 7 Pro 5G has what it takes to make it a considerable choice in 2022?

Of course, at an aggressive price point despite having powerful hardware and durable battery, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G is the renovated version of its predecessor. Yes, it has a gorgeous display with a shiny new design that has trendy flat edges. Apart from that, the new Oppo machine has in its heart a repackaged chassis with some minor changes. But that’s not what a productive user wants. What’s most important is to know what the Reno 7 Pro 5G can offer apart from its attractive design which we aim to discuss in this review.

At this price point, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G is competing with smartphones in the flagship segment including Xiaomi 12 Pro, OnePlus 9, and many others. With that said, the complete power of buying the Reno 7 Pro 5G lies in your hand. And to help you decide, here’s everything we’ve observed about the latest Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G.

Design

This year 2022 has seen most Oppo phones having a shiny, glittery back panel and the Reno 7 Pro is no different. Oppo has done a great job in making this phone unique and fantastic with the latest design trends. Last year’s Reno 6 Pro has a curved display that merged into the back for a comfy hand grip. However, it wasn’t the same with the Reno 7 Pro as it now has flat edges for reason best known to Oppo.

However, several OEMs including Apple have adopted the boxy look, but the Reno 7 Pro has a shimmery back panel with a matte finish. Fortunately, the phone’s flattened back and chamfered edges make it to stand on its own when kept on a flat surface. There’s no doubt the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G looks great with a 180g weight that makes it feel light even after long hours of use.

The glass back is something we’re familiar with as we’ve seen this generic design aesthetic on other Reno devices. However, what makes the Reno 7 Pro unique is the breathing light (light strip) around the camera module. It’s tucked around the perimeter of the camera bump in such a way that’s it’s unnoticeable. The illuminating ring glows when you receive a message, call, or even charge the phone.

The ring brings back the notification LEDs that were common on the front of smartphones, but this time around it has been shifted to the back due to lack of space and to create a new design trend. Using a silicone case won’t prevent you from seeing the ring light since the case diffuses the LED. This is definitely the best design feature of the Reno 7 Pro and the only department where Oppo has done something new.

However, just like many recent flagship phones, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro does not support a headphone jack which is no longer a surprise to us. This would be a drawback to wired earphone fans, but something they’ve to get along with.

If you’re impressed with the design, but still want something new from Oppo; the Find X5 Pro would make the best choice for you.

Display

Unlike the Reno 6 Pro, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G has flat edges which I’m practically a fan of as lot of people don’t like curved displays due to various reasons. Fortunately, Oppo has reduced the bezels to the lowest minimum which makes a huge difference when viewing the front of the device.

The phone has a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (1080 × 2400 pixels) resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The screen delivers commendable colours with an excellent viewing experience more than other premium phones with OLED displays. However, the only drawback of this display is having a 90Hz refresh rate whereas other competitors’ screens are capped at 120Hz.

Oppo embedded an under-display fingerprint reader for biometrics that we found to be fast and accurate. Also, there’s HDR10+ support that delivers a satisfying experience while watching content on YouTube or Netflix.

Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G: Camera

Oppo is known for her good camera phones and this time around, the company has decided to offer more with one of the greatest portrait camera we’ve ever seen on a handset.

The phone has a 50MP primary camera that is excellent in most lighting conditions. The colour reproduction looks great with a pleasing dynamic range. Also, there’s a natural bokeh mode that makes close-up shots look attractive. Unlike most phones, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G can capture good shots with the built-in Night Mode in low-light situations. However, you’ll notice some loss in the level of details with a slightly messed up white balancing which is nothing new to us.

The 8MP ultra-wide lens cannot match the quality of the primary camera as the details seem to be lacking with dull colours. The third shooter on the back is a 2MP macro lens that’s a letdown and can be considered pointless.

The 32MP front camera gave decent clicks with automatic beauty filters that’s set to default. Skin tones are great too as the camera manages to brighten up the face a little. If you take selfies a lot or you’re a type that engages in video calls frequently, you’ll surely like the selfie camera of the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G.

Performance and Software

The performance of the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G won’t be different from that of the Reno 6 Pro as they both have the same Dimensity 1200 chipset from MediaTek. The GPU, CPU, and clock speed functions are also similar, but the only difference is the Dimensity 1200 Max SoC that has been co-developed with OPPO.

In real life performance, there are no apparent differences that’ll distinguish the two phones. However, you’ve nothing to worry about as the Reno 7 Pro comes with a proven performer, so you’ll have no issues running all kinds of apps and games with the phone. However, you’ll experience frequent frame drops while playing high-end games.

However, a new chipset would have made the upgrade from Reno 6 Pro more great. Nevertheless, you’re getting one of the best Android phone performances on the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G.

Similar to other Oppo phones, you’re getting the Android 11 and ColourOS 12 out of the box. Old chipset and old software might still seem great but we want something new as a successor to the Reno 6 Pro.

Meanwhile, you’re getting the usual ton of pre-installed apps, features, customisable options, and game modes to choose from.

Battery Capacity and Charging

Battery Capacity and Charging

The Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G can survive more than one day on a single charge with its durable 4500mAh battery. Despite being a heavy user with daily usage that involves video calls, playing games, watching movies on Netflix, and browsing the internet, among others, the Reno 7 Pro’s battery didn’t disappoint.

When the phone needs a power-up, the Reno 7 Pro charges at 65W via the provided charger in the box. Charging is quick as it took less than 40 minutes to go from 0% to 100% which is surely impressive. However, this is not a surprise to us as it’s the same thing we saw on the Reno 6 Pro.
