Samsung Galaxy A12 Review: Features, Specs, and Price in the US

Budget smartphones are not valued just because they are cheap, but because they can still deliver something similar to the expensive ones at a cheaper price, and Samsung has been providing different budget smartphones for budget buyers. Though they’re not the only company that produces budget smartphones, other companies do but the company is unrivalled in dealing with budget smartphones with high performance and that can be found in the Samsung Galaxy A12.

Today, we are witnessing another budget smartphone from Samsung which they called the Galaxy A12. If you are a smartphone user who would consider a great camera, long-lasting battery capacity, and decent performance in a phone, the Samsung Galaxy A12 can offer it all without much increase in price. The Samsung Galaxy A12 is one of the cheapest phones you can get with a 5,000mAh battery, which sounds very interesting but it doesn’t end with only this huge battery capacity.

The A12 still features a huge screen, quad-camera lens, 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of memory, and tons of goodies you can’t afford to miss. Though at a cheap price, there must be a few downsides with this phone, but if you are satisfied with what this phone has to offer, then the Samsung Galaxy A12 is a very good smartphone to get if you don’t want to spend much.

Design

Well, looking at the specs and price of the A12, it’s obvious that this phone is not Samsung’s flagship device, so why not expect a simple design which is not in any way bad for the Galaxy A12 as long as it works effectively. The 6.5-inch screen occupies almost the whole screen, the only obstruction there is a notch cutout that houses the selfie camera at the top of the screen. Having a simple design means this phone doesn’t show off anything flashy, but you’re still getting four different colour options (Black, White, Blue, Red) to choose from depending on your taste.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 reaches up to 164 x 75.8 x 8.9mm in dimensions while weighing around 205g putting this phone on the bulky or heavy side. As a result of this, the phone might not be comfortably handled with one hand unless you have a big palm. Pushing both the power and volume buttons to the right corner makes it a little handy, and luckily the power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner so you can easily unlock this phone with one touch.

The back panel flaunts an all-plastic affair with a few-tone finish. A diagonal lined pattern on the top two-third, while having a matte finish on the bottom third which makes for a premium feel or look while using the A12. The squared quad-camera bump is slightly raised at the top left corner of the back panel, while a LED-Flashlight is sitting below it.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy A12 has a huge display which measures at 6.5-inches. The screen comes with a PLS LCD panel, a resolution of 720 x 1600 which reaches up to 264 pixels per inch, 20.9 aspect ratio and 270 ppi density. Though having a Full HD screen is a doubt for this phone, but its huge screen is good enough for your daily usages like watching content whether Netflix, YouTube or Tick Tock videos and viewing photos.

The display is also bright with up to 495 nits of maximum brightness and enough contrast, thereby making the Samsung Galaxy A12 bright enough to use outdoors even in a sunny environment with ease.

Camera

Camera

When it comes to the camera, we’re pleased with the camera setup of the Samsung Galaxy A12. Gone are the days when more expensive and high-quality smartphones use to have three camera setup which people consider too much, nowadays even budget smartphones are getting a quad-camera setup. However, we all know that you shouldn’t judge by the number of lenses you see in a phone’s camera but by its performance. The Samsung Galaxy A12 comes with four cameras but that doesn’t make this phone an elite.

Out of the four cameras, you’re getting a 48MP sensor as the main camera which can give you a nice look when you take pictures with it. For the other cameras, a 5MP Ultra-wide shooter might still count, but a double 2MP sensor as the depth sensor and macro lens isn’t that appreciated. However, given that you’re getting what you paid for, you just have to accept it as they can still do well for taking good pictures including portrait photography.

For taking selfies, you’re getting an 8MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. With the front camera, you can record videos at 1080p and make video calls. The front camera also doubles as the face unlock feature for additional security.

Performance, Storage, and Software

The Samsung Galaxy A12 isn’t much of a high performer and that’s one of the major downsides of this phone. We’ve got to understand why Samsung optioned a low-end processor and that’s because of its affordable price. The Samsung Galaxy A12 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 chipset manufactured using a 12nm process technology. Though this chipset isn’t that strong enough but it’s still in line with the money you paid for.

While using the Samsung Galaxy A12, everything works perfectly for your normal day-to-day activities and playing some light games, but this phone might not perform well with multi-tasking or some other demanding tasks.

In memory, the Samsung Galaxy A12 comes with 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of internal storage. Of course, many people might not be satisfied with the internal storage which seems too small, So Samsung has provided an option for expansion of memory via SD card slot up to 1TB.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 runs on the Android 10 operating system and can still be upgraded to the Android 11 version. Along with the operating system, this phone also runs the Samsung’s One UI 3.1 overlay so there would be some interesting features you can enjoy with the Samsung Galaxy A12.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy A12 packs a huge 5000mAh battery which is hardly found in most budget smartphones including some expensive ones too. Since you’ve got a large battery capacity, you can get up to 20hrs of internet browsing, streaming videos, playing games, music, and any other task you’re up to. Fortunately, charging this phone is done with a 15W charging support which can charge your phone from zero to 100% within a short time.
