Poco C40 Review: Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

The entire Poco Global family are gearing up for the global launch of the new Poco C40 on June 16, 2022. Although the phone has already been revealed in Vietnam, the rest of the world won’t get it until the global release date.

Poco, an independent brand from Xiaomi has been a top-notch company because of its high-end affordable smartphone spectrum. Poco has produced some amazing devices ranging from M3 Pro 5G, M4 5G, F4 GT, X4 Pro 5G, etc and the C40 is the latest device to be added to its collection. In many ways, Poco has proven to be the king of budget smartphones and that has once again been proven on this entry-level device.

The latest Poco C40 is an entry-level smartphone that’s powered by a Snapdragon 680 chipset, but with a 6.71-inch display, and a massive 6000mAh battery capacity. Also, it has a fast 3GB /4GB of RAM with an excellent 50MP rear camera to capture the beauty in you.

However, a smartphone is not just all about amazing specifications but rather its responsiveness in day-to-day usage. Does the Poco C40 have an impressive experience like it’s on paper? And while it sells for a cheap price, does it really worth your money? Find out on our official Poco C40 full review including its current price in the Nigerian market.

Design

The Poco C40 flaunts a similar design aesthetics to the Poco M3 Pro 5G and M4 5G but with different camera arrangements. It sports a two-camera setup that is enclosed in a large black module. Also, the build-up quality is strong and smooth to hold but lacks the flexibility to hold your hand although the balance will be decent while at your hand.

On the right side is the home to the volume rockers and power button with the fingerprint scanner left behind. This is against Poco’s usual trend of embedding the fingerprint reader in the power button which left us disappointed. However, what distinguishes the Poco C40 and makes it unique is the boldly scripted POCO badge under the camera island at the top left rear corner beside the camera.

With 169.6 x 76.6 x 9.1 mm and 203g weight, the C40 is very comfortable for one-hand use. Other inclusions of the phone are a 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker grill, IR blaster, and USB-C port.

The Poco M3 Pro 5G is readily available for purchase in Midnight Black, Pacific Blue, and Caribbean Green colour options. Unfortunately, there’s no official water-resistant rating which is rare to find on a smartphone of this price. Generally, the Poco C40 has a world-class design that’s good for its price.

Display

The Poco C40 flaunts a big 6.71-inch LCD with an HD+ (720 × 1650 pixel) resolution, 400 nits peak brightness, and 60Hz refresh rate. However, apart from the big screen, there’s not much captivating feature about this phone’s display. The recently released Poco M4 5G is more preferable as it has a better 90Hz smooth refresh rate.

Also, the lack of an AMOLED screen makes the phone outdated as most recent devices feature the latest display technology. The IPS LCD panel is the same found on the Poco M3 Pro 5G which is rather disappointing as we expected an upgrade. However, it’s quite good for normal day-to-day use but you’ll find it difficult to view content on the screen while in sunlight. However, we found the C40’s big-screen great for reading, playing games, or browsing.

Camera

Camera

The Poco C40 offers a dual rear camera setup comprising of a 13MP main shooter that’s assisted by a 2MP depth sensor. Unfortunately, the C40 being a budget device is not much of a camera phone. It failed to deliver in certain situations especially when it comes to taking night shots.

Meanwhile, the 5MP selfie camera is considered the best of the triple camera arrangement. The Poco C40 selfie camera really impressed us with a well-detailed photo which is shot with a Beauty filter at default. On the video category, the device maxes out at 1080p which is similar to other mid-rangers.

Under the hood, the Poco C40 features a JLQ JR510 chipset fabbed on at 11nm process. This is a great processor that utilizes two quad-core clusters of ARMv8-based cores clocked at 1.5GHz and 2.0GHz, respectively. The chip brings with it a Mali G57 GPU for graphics.

As for storage, you’re getting dual RAM options of 3GB /4GB and 32GB /64GB built-in storage. However, some regions will get access to the rare 6GB of RAM, but we’re not certain yet whether it’ll be available in Nigeria.

The Poco C40 boots the latest Android 11 operating system with MIUI 13 on the top overlay. Fortunately, it’s expected to receive the next Android 12 update in the coming months which is a great advantage for fans who love to stay updated with the Google software. Also, the latest MIUI 13 brings a lot of tweaks including Screen recorder, Dark mode, Nearby share, Security scan, Dual apps, Quick Ball, App lock, Second space, Game turbo, Floating window, etc.
