Poco M4 5G Review: Features, Specs, and Current Price in Nigeria and India

Poco M4 5G price in India

In 2021, Poco ended what could be its most successful season with another strong smartphone called the Poco M4 Pro 5G. This year, they’ve come out with the standard version of this phone after keeping the customers waiting. They named this new smartphone the Poco M4 5G which is the latest in the Poco M-series. Launching the Pro variant of a new smartphone before its original variant has become a trend in the market. Whether this is just a trend or for some reason is still unknown to us.

The Poco M4 5G is simply a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 11E 5G’s specs (different front camera and updated Android version) and Poco M4 Pro 5G’s design at a cheaper price. This phone features a 6.58-inch screen with a Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. A Mediatek Dimensity 700 chipset under the hood with a speedy 6GB or 4GB of RAM. There are 64GB and 128GB of internal storage which is also expandable via an SD card slot.

The Poco M4 5G has a 50MP dual-camera setup with an 8MP selfie shooter and an impressive 5000mAh battery capacity, but with average 18W fast charging support. The Poco M4 5G is simply good to use if you don’t mind taking pictures with only two lenses. On the other hand, the Pro version is a better smartphone if you’re willing to pay for it. As long as the price is concerned, the M4 5G is a good option to consider.

Design

Design

The Poco M4 5G has almost the same design as its Pro model, but you can easily spot the difference between them. Without getting to hold the Poco M4 5G, you can easily notice the already outdated drop notch screen which is different from the M4 Pro’s punch-hole cutout screen. The Poco M4 5G also features a slim body to be compared to its Pro model. Turning to the polycarbonate back panel, the Poco M4 5G has a rectangular camera bump that expands across the width of the back panel.

The rectangular camera bump houses a dual-camera setup and a LED flash which we found much more standard than the set of lenses on the Poco M4 Pro 5G. Also, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner which also serves as the power button at the top right corner along with the volume buttons.

Meanwhile, the dedicated microSD card slot /SIM slot, the headphone jack, and the USB Type-C port were all positioned beneath the bottom corner. The Poco M4 5G at 200g, weighs slightly much than its Pro model. This phone is only limited to resisting splashes which means you have to handle it with care to avoid damage. The Poco M4 5G will be arriving in the Gray, Silver, and Blue color variants with each of them producing a textured matte finish which looks good on this phone.

Display

Display

Up front, the Poco M4 5G has a 6.58-inch Full HD screen. I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t be expecting an AMOLED display at this price. You have to stick with an IPS LCD which has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 20.9 aspect ratio, 90Hz of refresh rate, and a corning Gorilla Glass 5 cover which isn’t bad at all. The screen features a drop notch cutout at the top for the selfie camera.

The display is sharp and bright for indoor and outdoor usage. There is a 240Hz touch sampling rate which doesn’t guarantee the screen is free from lag while scrolling through the screen as we noticed. On the other hand, the display produces images with vibrant colors.

Camera

Camera

We’re disappointed that Poco has to make cut-downs on this phone’s camera instead of other less-important parts. As a result of this, you’re only getting a dual-camera setup at the back which has a 50MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The main shooter can take good shots under good light conditions, producing images with sharp contrast and enough details.

While In low light conditions or night photographs, images aren’t detailed enough. Due to the absence of an ultra-wide camera, the main camera still makes shooting in dynamic range possible with this phone, but that isn’t something you should be happy about. Unfortunately, there are some issues while capturing in dynamic range. It doesn’t feel right to say the 2MP depth sensor is just for looks, but somehow it does. Skipping an ultra-wide sensor just for a 2MP depth sensor isn’t the best for this phone.

The 8MP selfie camera is just okay for taking selfies as it doesn’t deliver the best results. You can as well record videos and make video calls with it. The overall performance of this phone’s camera still goes well with the price, added to the 5G network connectivity.

Performance, Storage, and Software

Performance, Storage, and Software

The Mediatek Dimensity 700 octa-core processor powers the Poco M4 5G. This chipset is coupled with Mali-G57 MC2 for graphics. Starting with browsing which every user spends most of their time on, the Poco M4 5G is a good smartphone for those who stay active for hours on their various social media handles. You get super-fast network connectivity plus a responsive performance from the M4 5G.

And if you choose to play some games, watch videos, or stream movies on Netflix, you’ll always experience a decent performance while using this phone.

When it comes to storage, you’re getting 4GB /6GB of LPDDR4x RAM which is paired with 64GB /128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. You can as well expand the storage through a microSD card slot up to 512GB.

The Poco M4 5G runs the latest Android 12 operating system which is based on MIUI 13 interface. This is the first Poco smartphone with the Android 12 operating system at such an affordable price.

Battery

The Poco M4 5G has a 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. This makes it last more than a day on normal usage. However, you might need to connect the phone to a charger frequently if you play lots of games or stay online for hours. Meanwhile, it can easily charge from empty to full battery within an hour.
